When to buy
The Dualtron Achilleus is an excellent choice for experienced riders and second-time buyers. Tech-savvy riders will appreciate its customizable LED lights, app-based ride tracking, and fine-tuning option. If you have a budget of around $3500 I would strongly recommend getting it.
When not to buy
The Dualtron Achilles is a high-powered electric scooter, but it’s not for everyone. It comes with a hefty price tag, making it unsuitable for budget-conscious riders. City commuters should look elsewhere, as the Achilles is not suited for navigating busy streets. Additionally, its lack of a proper IP rating makes it less ideal for rainy weather. Newcomers to electric scooters should avoid it, given the demand for experience. For those who value portability, consider lighter options, as the Achilles is a heavy ride.
I had the chance to test the Dualtron Achilleus. All I can say is that it’s really an amazing scooter and the perfect replacement for the Thunder.
In this review, I’ll take you through every detail I observed during the week I spent thoroughly testing this scooter.
Basics
Let’s find out some of the basics of the Dualtron Achilleus that you would want to know about.
Unboxing and assembly
The Dualtron comes in a big box. Besides the scooter, you will find a charger, a tool kit, and a user manual.
The assembly is really easy. Secure the front light, unfold the handlebars, and activate features using the included tools. I did it within a couple of minutes.
The folding mechanism’s first click is really satisfying, with bolts tightening with a clink and a mesmerizing LED display getting turned on for the first time.
Performance
Here are some of the performance aspects of the Dualtron Achilleus.
Motor
The Dualtron Achilleus has a dual-motor system.
Each 2324W brushless DC motor unleashes a combined 4648W of peak power, which is more than enough power for almost everyone in my opinion.
They deliver breathtaking acceleration and achieve impressive top speeds.
Speed and speed test
Its official top speed is 47 mph / 75 kmh, which is not that slow in absolute terms, but it’s on the slower side when it comes to Dualtron models.
I tried out the Achilleus for about a week, and I managed to test its top speed a couple of times, but the fastest I managed to get was 49 mph / 78 kmh, which is a bit faster than the official top speed.
I was really impressed with the acceleration of this scooter, achieving 0 to 30 mph / 48 kmh in a heart-stopping 3.5 seconds.
If you want to see which scooters are the fastest, check out my guide on the fastest electric scooters.
Range and range test
The manufacturer says that the official range of the Dualtron Achilleus is 69.9 miles / 112 km.
My testing only managed to reach a range of 64 miles / 102 km, which is a bit lower than the official range.
If this range somehow isn’t enough for you, check out my guide on the best long-range electric scooters.
Climbing and climb test
The dual-motor offers a great official climb angle of 30 degrees.
Before testing the climb angle, I fully charged the scooter so it could give me the best result.
I achieved the official climb angle, but at a slightly steeper angle of about 33 degrees, the scooter struggled.
If you need a scooter with similar or even stronger climbing angles, check out my guide on the best climbing electric scooters.
Ride experience
It’s been enjoyable cruising around on the Dualtron Achilleus, and let me tell you, this scooter ain’t your typical average ride.
On my first ride I was left without a breath from the quick acceleration and the final speed, even got scared a bit.
With its sophisticated suspension system and responsive handling, this electric scooter glides over various terrains, providing a smooth and comfortable journey.
In my opinion, the scooter has a mean but elegant look at the same, which I really like, and the build quality is very good.
Dualtron Achilleus vs other scooters
Let’s see how the Dualtron Achilleus compares to other scooters.
Dualtron Achilleus vs Dualtron Victor
Both the Dualtron Achilleus and the Dualtron Victor boast impressive specs.
The Achilleus has dual 2324W motors, boasting a rapid 47 mph / 75 kmh top speed and a 3.5-second 0-30 mph / 48 kmh launch. Its adjustable air suspension conquers rough terrain, offering nimbleness in tight spaces.
The Victor, with dual 2000W motors, excels in urban agility, reaching a smooth 46 mph / 74 kmh. The hydraulic brakes and magnetic braking provide enhanced stopping power, prioritizing stability over rough terrain.
The Achilleus demands skill with its power and speed, while the Victor offers a more forgiving, comfortable commute for city dwellers.
I would recommend choosing the Achilleus for raw speed and cutting-edge tech, while the Victor for urban agility and a proven track record.
If you prefer the Dualtron Victor and want to find out more about it, check out my review of the Dualtron Victor.
Dualtron Achilleus vs Dualtron Victor Luxury
A lot of people are starting to compare the Dualtron Victor Luxury with the Dualtron Achilleus.
The Achilleus with its dual motors provides exceptional speed and acceleration.
The hydraulic brakes of the Victor Luxury ensure safety, and the fixed suspension offers unwavering stability on smoother ground.
The Achilleus commands the admiration of thrill-seekers with its unrestrained power, while the Victor Luxury prioritizes comfort and control in its luxurious features.
Dualtron Achilleus vs Dualtron Thunder 2
The Achilleus with its dual motors provides exceptional speed and acceleration, but the Dualtron Thunder 2 has a combined peak power of 10800 Watts and a 60 mph / 96 kmh top speed, making it a much better performer.
Its hydraulic brakes with additional magnetic braking offer unmatched stopping power, while its fixed suspension prioritizes unwavering stability over extreme bumps.
The price difference will be noticeable, but if you’re simply after more performance, check out my Dualtron Thunder 2 review.
Build quality
The Dualtron Achilleus exudes premium quality in every detail, from its robust frame to expert craftsmanship.
I must say that the build quality is amazing and it certainly surprised me a lot.
Despite its strength, the Achilleus surprises with its lightweight design. The scooter represents a long-term investment with a promise of enduring thrilling rides through daily commutes and weekend adventures.
But the Achilleus’s true strength lies beyond aesthetics. It excels in practical strength like its suspension system, a blend of air and steel that navigates bumps with ease.
Features
These are some of the features that the Dualtron Achilleus has.
Battery and charging
The Dualtron Achilleus has a powerful 60V 35Ah lithium-ion battery.
It regains its full battery life in 20 hours, while two standard chargers halve that time to a respectable 10 hours. And for the truly impatient, a dedicated quick charger can refuel the scooter in a little bit more than 4 hours.
In my opinion, the charging time with the fast charger is extremely quick for the specifications that the battery has.
Brakes
The Achilleus features robust Zoom hydraulic brakes on oversized rotors, which ensures progressive, fade-resistant deceleration.
Adding the magnetic braking system enhances control, especially during low-speed maneuvers. The result is inspiring confidence, enabling surgical cornering and exhilarating hill descents with the assurance of a controlled halt.
I can only say that the manufacturer didn’t go wrong when choosing what brakes to put on this scooter.
The only bad thing about these brakes is that they can’t be adjusted.
Suspension
The Achilleus has a front and rear suspension that is adjustable and easily replaceable.
This suspension navigates uneven terrains absorbing bumps and cracks effortlessly. Whether cruising through city streets or tackling challenging off-road paths, this symphony of engineering ensures a smooth and controlled ride.
The suspension is fine-tuned to strike the perfect balance between responsiveness and stability.
I would say that this scooter is pretty good for off-road riding, but if you prefer an even better off-road electric scooter, check out my guide on the best off-road electric scooters.
Tires and fenders
The Achilleus features 11-inch ultra-wide tubeless tires, provides optimal stability during extensive rides, and ensures a comfortable and controlled experience.
The tires not only contribute to one of the smoothest rides for my preference but also add to the scooter’s overall durability.
Additionally, it is equipped with well-designed fenders that serve to protect against splashes and debris, keeping both the rider and the scooter clean during various weather conditions.
Lights
This electric scooter takes visibility to a new level with its integrated lights, including side lights, arm lights, stem lights, headlights, tail lights, and brake lights.
This package not only enhances safety during night rides but also adds a touch of sophistication to the scooter’s overall design.
The Achilles introduces a vibrant array of colors with red anodized accents, also available in gold or black, adding a personalized flair to your electric ride.
I wouldn’t believe it if someone said that these lights aren’t enough for night rides, because you will light up like a Christmas tree.
Screen and controls
The scooter has the typical EY3 display (which I would prefer to be replaced with a newer version) that offers a user-friendly interface that provides instant access to essential information, allowing you to monitor battery levels, adjust riding modes, and navigate effortlessly.
The controls are designed for precision, giving riders a responsive and seamless experience, while the handlebars have ergonomically designed grips that can be replaceable and brake leavers.
App
The scooter can connect to the Dualtron app when the Bluetooth symbol lights up.
This user-friendly app provides a seamless connection between your smartphone and the scooter, offering features such as real-time ride tracking, customizable LED lighting controls, and firmware updates for optimal performance.
See the EScooterNerds Universal Scooter App for some extra features as well.
Weight, dimensions, and portability
The Dualtron Achilleus weighs 88 lbs / 40 kg. It isn’t the lightest electric scooter to carry around, but it’s also far from the heaviest.
The scooter’s dimensions when folded are 49.2 x 10.8 x 22 in, while unfolded 49.2 x 24 x 48.8 in. I didn’t manage to put it in the trunk of my car.
Anyway, if you prefer to have a scooter that is more portable, you will probably not pick this one. Check out my guide on the most portable electric scooters for that.
Weight limit
The Achilleus has a respectable 265 lbs / 120kg weight limit and is built for riders of average stature.
Exceeding this limit not only compromises safety and performance but also puts undue stress on the frame, suspension, and other vital components.
I had to test the weight limit but I weight only 198 lbs / 90 kg, so I put on a workout vest of 90 lbs /40 kg and the scooter had a tiny drop in performance.
If you are above this weight limit, check out my guide on the best electric scooters for heavy-riders.
Water resistance and waterproof
The manufacturer hasn’t classified the IP rating of the Achilleus.
I wouldn’t recommend regularly driving the scooter in wet conditions as it isn’t fully waterproof (even though I tried out the scooter on one semi-rainy day, and I had absolutely no issues at all).
If you enjoy riding in the rain and don’t have to worry at all, I would still suggest getting a scooter with a better IP rating (consider checking out my guide on the best waterproof electric scooters).
Accessories and customization
For the best aftermarket upgrades and customizations, see my guide on electric scooter accessories, as there are no specific accessories made for this model in particular.
Of course, make sure to always wear a proper scooter helmet. I recommend a full-face helmet for this scooter.
Security and locks
The Achilleus is equipped with a state-of-the-art locking mechanism which ensures that your investment remains protected whether parked in urban environments or during brief stops
The scooter isn’t very cheap, and a simple lock of medium security won’t save this scooter from thieves.
I recommend the strongest lock you can afford (see my guide on the best electric scooter locks for some great picks).
Issues and downsides
While the Dualtron Achilles boasts undeniable power and performance, there are some issues and downsides that you should consider before buying it.
There are some users who have reported concerns related to the overall weight of the scooter, making it less convenient for extended carrying.
Personally, I agree with those people, but If you make sure your battery is fully charged you won’t have that problem.
Another concern is the unclassified IP rating and people keep worrying about what to do if they get caught up in some rain.
One minor issue I was kind of annoyed by was that the standard handlebars rotate and are too soft, so I had to replace them.
Finally, the price point of this scooter may be outside of the budget range for many would-be owners. If you’re working with less than $2,000, make sure to see my guides on the best electric scooters under $1,500 and the best scooters under $1,000.
Verdict
This scooter presents an impressive package of power, performance, and features, making it a standout. While the price tag is a bit high for most people, I think that it’s worth it.
The build quality, featuring a robust yet seamless design and a suspension system, ensures a smooth ride and stability.
In my opinion, you can’t go wrong with this scooter if you are experienced and looking for an upgrade.
