Electric Scooter Price Guide – Avoid Overpaying By Knowing The Price Categories

Last Updated on February 7, 2023 by Matt

I may have mentioned several times on this blog that I’m a value shopper primarily. I’ve always tried to be economical, and value per dollar plays a big role in my buying decisions.

This is especially true for electric scooters.

I love researching scooters’ quality levels and features, and see how they compare to their prices. I believe that’s a great way to find out which scooters are truly best, especially compared to similarly priced scooters.

Throughout all the research, I’ve come to several interesting answers and insights about the prices and price categories of scooters.

As with any other product, the higher price you pay, the better your odds are of getting a high-quality product. Still, there are a lot of great options in every price category.

We will go over every price category, show all the models with their prices, see what they have in common, and which are some great value picks.

Budget electric scooters (under $400)

Defining what price range is budget can be problematic.

I chose the $400 mark because it is a price high enough to include a lot of choices, while still being a very low price for an electric scooter.

There are 43 electric scooters for adults that cost under $400. As we already mentioned, their average price is $309.83.

Their average range is exactly 12 mi / 20 km. The EvoLite Carbon has the longest range out of the budget scooters, at 22 mi / 35 km on a single charge.

There are several good models here that may fill different needs.

The average top speed in this category is 18 mph / 30 kmh. The Joyor LR8 and the Techlife X5 are the fastest scooters, capable of reaching 28 mph / 45 kmh.

Many models here will still have motors of 250 Watts, but most will be over 500 Watts. The UberScoot 1600W will already have a peak power of 1600 Watts (hence the name).

These scooters will have an average range of 20 mi / 32 km. The Joyor LR8 really stands out in this category, with a range of 45 mi / 73 km!

Typically, these will be heavier scooters, almost all weighing above 26 lbs / 12 kg. Some of them will already have climbing angles of 30 degrees.

This is a great price category. You can find so much value here, probably even the most. That’s exactly why I chose my scooter from this price category (the Xiaomi M365 Pro).

Also, this price category is common for people looking to buy someone an electric scooter as a gift, as it’s not too expensive, but also the scooters here are not the kind of cheap products that will break down after a week.

Let’s check out some of the best scooters in the price category.

What is the best cheap electric scooter?

Xiaomi M365 Pro standing on a stand in a living room

The Xiaomi M365 Pro is the best cheap scooter right now. For the price of $550, you will get one of the most popular electric scooter models ever made. Its usage numbers go in the millions, with both Lime and Bird heavily relying on it in their fleets.

The top speed of the Xiaomi M365 Pro is 15 mph / 25 kmh out of the box, so that it complies with most local laws. There is custom firmware available that can unlock speeds of 22 mph / 35 kmh.

The range of 28 mi / 45 km and the weight of 31 lbs / 14 kg make it perfect for commuting.

The Xiaomi M365 Pro is not the most performant scooter out there. But its social proof is simply unmatched. With that many people vouching for its quality and reliability, you can’t go wrong.

If you want to read a full review on the Xiaomi M365 Pro, you can do so here.

Where to buy the Xiaomi M365 Pro from?

The latest version of the Xiaomi M365 Pro, which is the Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter Pro 4, can be bought through Amazon.

In UK, and some European countries, the scooter will be available on Amazon UK.

Seems like the only place where the Xiaomi M365 Pro is easily available in Canada is from TekTrendy. The scooter will arrive very fast (possibly within 24 hours), and there will be no additional shipping or other costs.

What is the best value cheap electric scooter?

The Joyor LR8 costs $799, which almost makes it a medium-priced scooter. But its stats are much better than most of the medium-priced scooters!

Joyor builds great value, great performing scooters. Getting 28 mph / 45 kmh top speed and an amazing range of 45 mi / 73 km for under $1000 is simply ridiculous.

This scooter has a climbing angle of 25 degrees and it can carry heavier adults, up to 265 lbs / 120 kg.

It may just as well be the best value scooter ever.

Medium-priced electric scooters (under $1500)

We can define the medium price range for scooters to be between $800 and $1500.

The scooters under $1500 already start to get very powerful.

Motors with power levels above 1000 or even 2000 Watts are common. The FLJ T113 has a peak power level of 3200 Watts!

We will already start to see some crazy top speeds here. While the average speed is 25 mph / 40 kmh, there are a few models that can go above 38 mph / 60 kmh. The FLJ T113 can go as fast as 50 mph / 80 kmh, and is the fastest scooter in this category.

The ranges will also start to get really big. The average range is 29 mi / 46 km, but the EMove Cruiser has a range of 62 mi / 100 km, and the Qiewa Q1 Hummer has it at 65 mi / 104 km.

Climbing angles are also much better, with some models claiming angles of more than 40 degrees. If you live in a hilly area, I suggest you pick a climbing scooter from this price range.

So, we’re starting to see the first scooters that are true performers. With many great scooters to choose from, let’s see what are some of the best models.

What is the best medium-priced electric scooter?

The best medium-priced scooter right now is the EMove Cruiser. Its stats are superb. Top speed of 28 mph / 45 kmh, a range of 62 mi / 100 km, a water resistance rating of IPX6, and a climbing angle of 20 degrees, all make the EMove Cruiser one of the best electric scooters of our day. It costs $1499.

What is the best value medium-priced electric scooter?

For the price of $999, you can get amazing value from the Kaabo Skywalker 10S. It has a top speed of 31 mph / 50 kmh and a range of 43 mi / 69 km. Its motor of 1500 Watts enables it to climb angles up to 30 degrees.

It’s hard to beat that kind of bang-for-buck.

What is the most powerful medium-priced electric scooter?

The most powerful performer in the middle price range is the FLJ T113. It has a top speed of 50 mph / 80 kmh, and a very strong range of 50 mi / 80 km. Its 3200 Watts peak power motor can pull up to 330 lbs / 150 kg. It costs $1200.

You can find this great-value scooter on AliExpress.

What is the best medium-priced electric scooter for heavy adults?

The best medium-priced scooter for heavy adults is the EMove Cruiser. It has the biggest load capacity of all medium-priced scooters. It can pull 353 lbs / 160 kg! Besides that, it has top speeds of 28 mph / 45 kmh, a climbing angle of 20 degrees, and an IP rating of IPX6, making it almost fully waterproof. Also, the EMove Cruiser has the longest range in this price category, providing 62 mi / 100 km on a single battery charge.

This excellent scooter costs around $1400. You can find the EMove Cruiser at Voromotors (and apply my special coupon code escooternerds for a discount!).

There are already some models approaching the 62 mph / 100 kmh top speed, although none of them cross it. The fastest models here are the Dualped Speed Demon and the Outstorm Maxx / EMobo Duotork, capable of developing up to 56 mph / 90 kmh.

The average top speed is 36.9 mph / 59.4 kmh.

Most motors in this price range are at least a few thousand Watts. The EMobo Duotork is the record holder, with 5000 Watts of peak power.

On average, the scooters in this category have a range of 46 mi / 74 km.

Pretty much all of the scooters here will be heavy scooters, often weighing 66+ lbs / 30+ kg. The climb angles and maximum loads will also be excellent.

Let’s check out some of the best models in this category.

What is the best expensive electric scooter?

rear diagonal view of a red Qiewa Q Power with black details leaning on its stand on a white background

The best expensive scooter today is the Qiewa Q Power. With a top speed of 88 km/h and a range of 80 km, there’s not much more you can ask from an electric scooter. With an IP rating of IPX5, it provides excellent protection from water. It is the best scooter for heavy adults ever made, with an unmatched weight capacity of 660 lbs / 300 kg.

This is a hard choice to make, since there are a lot of great candidates in this category.

Still, I believe the Qiewa Q Power has an edge here.

For a price of around $2100, the Qiewa Q Power deserves the title of the best expensive electric scooter.

Where to buy the Qiewa Q Power from?

For the UK, Ireland, and many EU countries, the best place to get the Qiewa Q Power by far will be Amazon UK. Chances are, you will get your scooter the fastest, no shipping and customs costs in the UK, and reasonable ones in the rest of Europe.

At one time, the Qiewa Q Power was available on Amazon, but it seems that’s no longer the case now. Probably the only place you can get this scooter is the official Qiewa store. They ship internationally, but the costs for shipping, taxes, and customs fees are not included in the original price. Currently, the delivery time can take anywhere between 20 and 40 days depending on your location.

What is the best value expensive electric scooter?

The value that the Techlife X7 offers in the expensive price range is hard to beat. For a price of $1785, you will get a top speed of 43 mph / 70 kmh and a range of 50 mi / 80 km. It is one of the cheapest scooters in this category, and yet it has performance stats as some scooters that cost double its price.

What is the best long-range expensive electric scooter?

Out of all the expensive electric scooters, the Inokim OXO has the longest range. It can go 68 mi / 110 km on a single charge, which is brilliant.

This is the most expensive electric scooter in this price range, with a price of $2490. It can go with top speeds of 40 mph / 65 kmh.

What this scooter lacks is climbing power. It can only climb angles of 15 degrees.

Super-expensive electric scooters (over $2500)

If people consider spending at least $2500 on an electric scooter, then they would probably spend $4000, $6000, or maybe even more than $7000.

That’s why the super-expensive category will include every scooter above $2500.

It will be kind of the most unfair, uneven category, since the most expensive models will be double, or even triple the price of the cheapest ones.

But we have to draw the line somewhere. And we can’t have too many categories and still provide useful grouping.

With 20 models in this category, the average price is $3738.

Simply put, all the scooters on this final list are crazy.

Their motors are well into the thousands of Watts.

Of course, that will result in the fastest scooters ever, the longest ranges, the best climbing angles (but weirdly enough, not the biggest weight capacities).

The average speed here is 54 mph / 87 kmh, and the Rion2 RE90 is the world champion, with a top speed of an unbelievable 100 mph / 160 kmh!

The best possible ranges in the game average 66 mi / 106 km, and the Dualtron X2 holds the record with 93 mi / 150 km!

Naturally, all of the “most” scooters will be in this category.

What is the fastest super-expensive electric scooter?

The fastest electric scooter in the world right now is the Rion2 RE90. Its top speed of 100 mph / 160 kmh is far beyond what any other scooter can achieve.

This is also the most expensive scooter in the world today. In the US, it will cost you $7100, and in any other place it will cost $7400.

Not even sure what else needs to be said here. If you absolutely love fast scooters and money is not an issue for you, you should probably get the Rion2 RE90.

Where to buy the Rion2 RE90 from?

It is very likely that the Rion RE90 is discontinued at this time, and no online stores have it in stock.

Same as for the US, you can only order the Rion2 RE90 from the Rion store. However, shipping outside the US will cost you an extra $600.

The Dualtron X2 is the best electric scooter in the world right now.

Capable of reaching speeds above 65 mph / 105 kmh, and the world record holder for the longest range with 93 mi / 150 km, this scooter is simply undisputed.

It costs $6490.
