When to buy
Get the Dualtron Spider Max if you’re looking for a strong performance scooter that, unlike other power scooters, doesn’t weight a ton. Also, get it as your second/advanced scooter.
When not to buy
I wouldn’t recommend this scooter if you live in a rainy area, since it lacks water protection.
I had the chance to test the Dualtron Spider Max for two weeks. In this review, we’ll cover everything there is to know about this scooter. Let’s dive in.
Basics
Here are some of the basics that you should know about the Dualtron Spider Max.
Unboxing and assembly
The Dualtron Spider Max comes in a big box. Besides the scooter, you will find a charger, a power cable, a tool kit, a user manual for the scooter, and additional instructions for the display.
I can say that the assembly is very easy and you won’t waste much time on it. You will have to unfold the scooter and tighten the handlebar, stem, and the display with some screws.
That’s it, It can’t go any simpler than that.
Performance
Here are some of the performance aspects that the Dualtron Spider Max provides.
Motor
The Dualtron Spider Max is powered by a dual motor.
Each brushless motor has 1000W and unleashes a combined 4000W peak power, which is more than enough power for the majority of people, in my opinion.
The scooter’s acceleration is very good and makes the scooter even better.
Speed and speed test
The Spider Max has an official top speed of 42 mph / 67 kmh.
In my speed tests, the spider didn’t perform as the manufacturer claimed. I managed to accomplish a max speed of 39 mph / 62 kmh which isn’t that bad for my preference but at the same time isn’t the official top speed.
If this speed isn’t enough for you speed junkies, check out my guide on the fastest electric scooters.
Range and range test
The Spider Max has an impressive official range of 65 miles / 104 km and this makes it a viable option for commuting or long-distance rides.
However, it’s important to note that the actual range will vary depending on your weight, riding style, and terrain.
When I tested the scooter for a couple of days, I managed to get 61 miles / 99 km in eco-mode, which isn’t really bad and is pretty close to the official range.
If this range isn’t enough for your daily commutes, check out my guide on the longest-range electric scooters.
Climbing and climb test
The dual-motor offers an official climb angle of 23 degrees.
Before testing the climb angle, I fully charged the scooter so it could give me the best result.
The official climb angle was achieved with little to no struggle, so I went to another hill that was around 27-28 degrees in my estimate. After struggling for a while in the end, the scooter managed to climb it.
But, in my opinion, this climb angle wouldn’t be reached if the battery wasn’t full.
If you need a scooter with even stronger climbing angles, check out my guide on the best climbing electric scooters.
Ride experience
Riding the Spider Max gives you a special feeling that not every scooter can give you.
The throttle unleashes a smooth acceleration that can put a smile on your face without a doubt.
The ergonomic design and intuitive controls ensured a responsive experience and comfortable ride, and combined with the excellent tires, every second of the ride was enjoyable.
All in all, for the price that you are paying, you get the maximum enjoyment.
Dualtron Spider Max vs other scooters
Let’s see how the Spider Max compares to other scooters.
Dualtron Spider Max vs Dualtron Victor Luxury
The Dualtron Spider Max has dual 1000W motors that provide a combined 4000W peak power, while the Dualtron Victor Luxury has two formidable 2000W motors, but funny enough, they also provide a total power output of 4000 watts. So, the difference is only in the real power output, but the peak power is the same.
The Dualtron Victor Luxury, despite being more compact, stands out with its impressive dual motor configuration, providing riders with a thrilling and dynamic experience.
With an exquisite suspension system and responsive controls, it offers an exceptional ride quality. If you’re curious about it, see my detailed review of the Dualtron Victor Luxury.
Dualtron Spider Max vs VSETT 10+
In my mind, these two scooters are pretty similar and are in direct competition with each other.
The VSETT 10+ packs a punch with dual 1200W motors, reaching a combined 4800W peak power, slightly more than the Spider Max which has dual 1000W motors that provide a combined 4000W peak power.
It also offers a respectable range of up to 43.5 mi / 70 km thanks to its 60V 21Ah battery. When it comes to range, the Spider Max reigns supreme with 65 miles / 104 km.
The Dualtron Spider Max doesn’t have a suspension, while the VSETT 10+ relies on adjustable spring suspension which makes the ride more comfortable.
Build quality
This scooter has an aerospace-grade aluminum and high-strength steel frame that attests to precision engineering, while each bolt and cable contributes to a symphony of durability.
Every component seamlessly integrates into a sturdy whole, showcasing meticulous attention to detail in weld precision and frame resilience.
The Spider Max not only looks tough but for me it emanates an unshakeable aura of reliability, assuring you that it has your back on any wild ride.
Features
These are some of the features that the Dualtron Spider Max boasts.
Battery and charging
The battery and charging system of the Spider Max epitomizes efficiency and reliability.
It’s powered by a 60V 30Ah LG M50LT-21700 battery, and it enables riders to confidently navigate their urban journeys with minimal worrying.
Recharging with the basic charger takes about 17 hours to reach full capacity, while with the fast charger it needs only 5 hours, which is very decent for a battery of this size in my opinion.
Brakes
One of the strongest elements of this scooter are the brakes in my opinion.
The scooter is equipped with Zoom hydraulics which have 140 mm discs. It boast exceptionally responsive brakes, ensuring riders can confidently bring this powerhouse to a halt with precision and efficiency.
These are the one of best brakes I have tried ever, at least for my preference.
Suspension
One of the biggest downsides of the Spider Max is that it hasn’t got any suspension, but even without it, the ride is fairly comfortable.
I think that if the manufacturer had added some extra suspension, the scooter would be one of the most comfortable electric scooters.
Tires and fenders
The scooter features robust 10 x 2.5 inch pneumatic tires, which provide riders with a reliable grip on various surfaces.
These tires ensure a smooth and controlled ride, and at times you will forget that the scooter doesn’t have any suspension.
The innovative fender design, while elongated for enhanced splash protection, showcases the scooter’s commitment to rider experience.
I will only say that the manufacturer knew what they were doing when choosing the tires for this scooter.
Lights
The Spider Max stands out as a scooter that has a pretty good lightning system that effortlessly lights up the road.
It features a headlight, bright low-mounted side lights, and a tail light, that significantly enhances visibility at night.
Screen and controls
The Spider has a wide, anti-glare screen called EY4 which delivers critical information like speed, odometer, battery level, trip details, and motor temperature in a clear layout, visible even in bright sunlight.
The EY4 serves as a control hub with dedicated buttons on the left side of the handlebar and a thumb throttle for easy management of acceleration, braking, and cruise control.
App
This scooter uses the Minimotors app which you can connect to via Bluetooth, and it’s the same as for all other Dualtron electric scooters.
It is the ultimate tool for enhancing the Dualtron Spider Max experience in my opinion.
This app provides digital control of nearly every aspect of this scooter. You can track real-time journey details, customize acceleration and speed settings, and connect with a vibrant rider community.
Weight, dimensions, and portability
The Spider Max, weighing only 69 lbs / 31 kg, maintains a sturdy build without sacrificing maneuverability. Its well-balanced dimensions contribute to a comfortable and ergonomic riding experience.
I managed to put the scooter in my friend’s car (Fiat Uno) without too much struggle.
The efficient folding mechanism, while not the lightest (it’s light when you consider the specs that it has), still facilitates easy storage and transport.
While its weight may be a factor for extended carrying, I’d say the scooter still excels in delivering a robust and foldable design, ideal for urban commuters who prioritize durability and convenience.
Anyway, if you prefer to have a scooter that is more portable, you will probably not pick this one. Check out my guide on the most portable electric scooters for that.
Weight limit
The weight limit of the Spider Max is a substantial 260 pounds / 117 kg. This weight capacity ensures versatility and accommodates a broad range of users, making the Spider an inclusive and accessible choice for electric scooter enthusiasts.
If you are above this weight limit, check out my guide on the best electric scooters for heavy-riders.
Water resistance and waterproof
The manufacturer hasn’t classified what is the IP rating of this scooter, so we don’t know for sure.
I tried it out a bit in some very light rain, and the scooter survived without any defects, but I would recommend driving it consistently in the rain.
If you live in a city where it consistently rains and don’t want to worry if the scooter will survive, check out my guide on the most waterproof electric scooters.
Accessories and customization
Like with most Dualtron scooters, there are no accessories that are custom-tailored for this model in particular, so you’ll have to check out my guide on the best scooter accessories if you want to customize your ride.
As with any fast scooter, you will want a full-face or at least a half-face scooter helmet at the very least.
Security and locks
Thieves will start to foam at the mouth when they notice this scooter. You will want to use a strong scooter lock, or maybe even two locks of a different type, like a cuff and a chain lock.
Issues and downsides
While the scooter is relatively new, some users have reported concerns about the scooter’s weight, as its robust build contributes to a hefty overall mass, impacting portability for certain riders.
Additionally, the complexity of the scooter’s setup and programming, including the P settings, might pose a challenge for those new to the Dualtron experience.
Some riders have also noted that the scooter’s calipers are bad from the start and that they had to change them after a couple of rides.
I personally didn’t have any problems in the few days while I tested the scooter.
Verdict
This scooter presents an impressive package of power, performance, and features.
It also provides a healthy mix of quality, safety, comfort, and ease of use.
Its high price and weight might deter some, but for those who prioritize exhilarating speed and luxurious features, it’s a worthy investment and I would strongly recommend getting it.
I recommend it for the advaced riders, who’re looking for their second scooter, or their first performance scooter.
