When to buy
The Dualtron Mini is ideal for someone looking for a more affordable Dualtron model suited for more casual use. Commuters will love its compact size and extended range, perfect for city travel. Quality-conscious riders benefit from its durable build. If you prioritize top-notch quality, safety, portability, and features, the Dualtron Mini is a solid choice for a budget of around $1500.
When not to buy
If you’re seeking an electric scooter with extreme power, the 1450-watt motor of the Mini may not meet your expectations. Similarly, those desiring a scooter with the absolute highest speed might find the Mini’s top speed of 28 mph a bit underwhelming. Moreover, riders residing in consistently rainy environments might be hesitant due to the scooter’s unclear water resistance rating.
I had the chance to review and test the Dualtron Mini. These are my thoughts and experiences with it.
Basics
Here are some of the basics of the Dualtron Mini.
Unboxing and assembly
The Dualtron Mini comes in a big box. Besides the scooter, you will find a user manual, allen key set, bolt covers, handlebar set, LED remote, and a battery.
Assembling the Dualtron Mini is straightforward and user-friendly, ensuring riders can hit the road swiftly and effortlessly. I was left shocked at how easy the assembly of the scooter was and didn’t have to lose any time.
In this video, Cooper is breaking down everything about the Dualtron Mini.
Performance
Here are some of the performance aspects of the Dualtron Mini.
Motor
The Dualtron Mini is powered by a 1450-watt BLDC hub motor.
This motor isn’t insanely powerful, but its power is more than enough for my daily commute.
Speed and speed test
The Dualtron Mini has an official top speed of 32 mph / 51 kmh. The fastest I managed to get was 28 mph / 45 kmh.
If you want to see faster models, check out my guide on the fastest electric scooters.
Range and range test
The manufacturer says that the official range of the Dualtron Mini is 34 miles / 54 km, but doesn’t clarify at which speed that range is possible.
My testing only managed to reach a range of 31 miles / 49 km at pretty high speeds for the majority of the ride, which is extremely good in my opinion.
If this range isn’t enough for you, check out my guide on the best long-range electric scooters.
Climbing and climb test
The Dualtron Mini offers a great official climb angle of 20 degrees.
The official climb angle was pretty easy to achieve, so I went to a steeper hill to test the angle further. The hill has an angle of around 25 degrees, and the scooter managed to climb it with a very minimal struggle.
If this isn’t enough for your hill-climbing hobby, check out my guide on the best electric scooters for climbing hills.
Ride experience
It’s been an enjoyable couple of days cruising around on the Dualtron Mini, and let me tell you, this scooter ain’t your average ride.
I was surprised by the build quality and elegant and at the same time sporty design that this scooter has.
The Dualtron Mini isn’t very fast and doesn’t have a big acceleration that would leave you without a breath, but it has a very comfortable ride which is provided by the quadruple suspension and 8.5 pneumatic tube tires, which many scooters in that price range can’t provide.
I can say with no problem that I was pretty satisfied with the outcome that this scooter provides.
Dualtron Mini vs other scooters
Let’s see how the Dualtron Mini compares to other scooters.
Dualtron Mini vs VSETT 8
The Mini excels in power, speed, and aggressive design compared to the VSETT. On the other hand, the VSETT 8 prioritizes comfort and city cruising, featuring wider tires and a plush suspension for a smoother ride.
For those who prioritize range, the VSETT 8 takes the lead with a slightly larger battery, suitable for longer commutes, but the Mini is more portable and effortlessly fits into car trunks or office corners with its compact frame.
In terms of features, the Mini is loaded with customizable LED lights and a quad suspension system, while the Vsett 8 offers remarkable value for its price, delivering solid performance and reliability without as many extras.
Dualtron Mini vs Ninebot Max
One of the hardest decisions to make for me is choosing between the Mini and the Ninebot Max.
I would suggest choosing the Mini for thrilling rides with its powerful motor, or going for the Ninebot Max for comfort and stability in navigating urban terrain.
The Max excels in range and is perfect for extended commutes, while the Mini suits quick bursts of adrenaline during short city errands.
The Mini is packed with a quad suspension system, catering to comfort enthusiasts, but comes with at a more expensive ride.
On the other hand, the Max offers a more budget-friendly price.
If you are leaning towards more range and value, check out my review of the Ninebot Max.
Dualtron Mini vs Kaabo Mantis 8
A lot of people are starting to compare the Dualtron Mini with the Mantis 8.
The Mini offers raw power with a 1450W motor, with a top speed of 32 mph / 51 kmh, while the Mantis 8 has a 1600W motor with a top speed of 34 mph /55 kmh. So, pretty similar.
The Mini’s 8.5″ tires excel in agility, but the Mantis prioritizes comfort with 8″ tires and adjustable suspension, leading in range with 26.7 miles / 41 km.
The Mini, at 48 lbs / 21 kg, is more portable, while the Mantis is heavier for a couple of lbs and less portable.
Ultimately, it’s a choice between power and portability with the Mini or comfort and range with the Mantis.
Build quality
The Dualtron Mini impresses with its durable and sleek frame in my opinion.
Every component seamlessly integrates into a sturdy whole, showcasing meticulous attention to detail in weld precision and frame resilience.
This scooter is a well-crafted machine built to endure different terrains, offering riders a reliable, long-lasting, and aesthetically pleasing companion on their journeys.
Features
Here are some of the features of the Dualtron Mini you should know about.
Battery and charging
The battery and charging system of the Mini epitomize efficiency and reliability.
Powered by an LG 52V 17.5 Ah battery, this scooter ensures riders can confidently ride the scooter for two or maybe even three days without recharging it.
Recharging takes about 10 hours with the standard charger, while if you use the fast charger it only takes 2.5 hours which is very fast for a battery of this size in my opinion.
Brakes
The Dualtron Mini features front and rear drum brakes, and this electric scooter ensures reliable and responsive stopping power, even at higher speeds.
The braking mechanism offers riders a sense of confidence and reassurance, allowing for precise control in various riding conditions.
I have to say that these brakes exceeded my expectations.
Suspension
The Mini is equipped with a unique quadruple suspension system which makes the rides more comfortable and enjoyable.
I was surprised to see a scooter of this price range have a quadruple suspension, because most of the competition have standard coil springs one in the front and one at the rear.
I even went on a small off-road adventure with the scooter, and it performed very well. Still, if you prefer a classic off-road electric scooter, check out my guide here.
Tires and fenders
The scooter features 8.5 pneumatic tube tires, which provide riders with a reliable grip on most surfaces.
These tires and the scooter’s quadruple suspension ensure a smooth and controlled ride, whether cruising on city streets or tackling off-road trails.
It has full-length fenders, made of durable plastic, shield against mud and debris, keeping you and the scooter clean during rides through puddles or city grime.
These fenders also contribute to the scooter’s style, seamlessly integrating with its aggressive stance and futuristic design.
Lights
The Mini stands out as a scooter that effortlessly lights up any space it enters – quite literally.
It features steering wheel lightning, and side panel lighting, aside from these two lightnings the scooter also has a headlight, taillight, and brake lights.
One big feature of the lights is that you can change the colors from the remote device.
Riding the Mini with lights on, I guarantee you’ll be noticed from every angle.
Screen and controls
The Dualtron Mini features an intuitive display and controls for a seamless riding experience.
The EY3 display shows essential information like speed and battery level, while the controls on the handlebars provide precise command over acceleration, braking, and scooter settings.
App
The Dualtron Mini uses the Minimotors app which you can connect to via Bluetooth, and it’s the same as for all other Dualtron electric scooters.
It is the ultimate tool for enhancing the Dualtron Mini experience in my opinion.
You can track real-time journey details, customize acceleration and speed settings, and connect with a vibrant rider community. This app provides digital control and community engagement.
Weight, dimensions, and portability
The Dualtron Mini weighs 48 lbs / 21 kg.
It’s lighter than many full-sized scooters, and it’s easy to carry upstairs or to fit in your car trunk.
When folded, it measures a convenient 16.5 x 15 x 19.3 in / 42 x 38 x 49 cm, enabling easy storage under a desk, in a closet, or for transportation on public transit.
So, it’s pretty much an average scooter in terms of portability, but when it comes to Dualtron models, it’s definitely a mini scooter.
Weight limit
The weight limit of the Dualtron Mini is 220 lbs / 100 kg.
This weight capacity ensures versatility and accommodates a broad range of users, making the Mini an inclusive and accessible choice for electric scooter enthusiasts.
I didn’t feel any noticeable drop in performance while riding this scooter with total weight very close to the weight limit.
If you are above this weight limit, check out my guide on the best electric scooters for heavy-riders.
Water resistance and waterproofing
The manufacturer hasn’t classified what is the IP rating of this scooter.
I drove it a bit in the rain and the scooter survived, but I would never recommend driving it consistently in the rain, as that may result in defects.
If you live in a city where it consistently rains and don’t want to worry if the scooter will survive, check out my guide on the most waterproof electric scooters.
Accessories and customization
The Dualtron Mini doesn’t have as many accessory options as other scooters, but you can still enhance your riding experience with some useful additions.
Consider adding accessories like custom grips for added comfort, LED lights for visibility, a phone mount for navigation, and a handlebar bag for storage.
You can add decorative elements like deck stickers to personalize your scooter, but keep in mind the scooter’s compact design when selecting accessories, ensuring they are compatible and won’t hinder its portability.
For the best aftermarket accessories, check out my guide on electric scooter accessories, also make sure to always wear a proper scooter helmet.
I use a full-face helmet during my rides, and I recommend you do the same.
Security and locks
The scooter isn’t very cheap, and a simple lock of medium security won’t save this scooter from thieves.
I recommend getting some stronger, more expensive locking systems that provide peace of mind (see the guide on the best electric scooter locks for some great picks).
Issues and downsides
While the Dualtron Mini impresses with its compact size and portability, there are a few issues to consider.
The absence of an official water resistance rating raises concerns about the scooter’s durability in wet conditions. The modest weight capacity of 220 lbs / 100 kg might limit its suitability for heavier riders.
The only issue I have heard that people are complaining about is that the grips of the handlebars are slippery and rotate.
In my opinion, these aren’t that big of issues and drawbacks.
The price point of this scooter may be outside of the budget range for many would-be owners. If you’re working with less than $1,500, make sure to see my guides on the best scooters under $1,000 and the best scooters under $500.
Verdict
This scooter presents an all-around package of power, performance, and features, making it a standout. It provides a healthy mix of quality, safety, comfort, and ease of use.
This is the most affordable Dualtron scooter, and the most portable one. You will get the same level of quality, craftsmanship, and attention to detail that the best scooter line in the world offers, but for a much smaller price, and you will get a scooter that’s suited for casual riders and everyday use.
In my opinion, there is no way you can go wrong with this scooter. If your budget is around $1500 and you’re looking for a Dualtron model, the Dualtron Mini will be a very good choice.
