Basics

kaabo wolf king gtr

This wasn’t just a ride, it was an adrenaline-pumping odyssey for the fearless explorer that each one of us carries within. First, I’ll guide you through the process of unboxing and assembly of Kaabo Wolf King GTR.

Unboxing and assembly

I should point out that this is maybe the longest box I have ever seen a scooter come in. The Kaabo Wolf King GTR was neatly packed with lots of styrofoam that protects it from any damage upon delivery.

Inside the box you will find:

  • the scooter
  • handlebars
  • user manual
  • TFT display manual
  • kickstand
  • hex and Allen tool kit
  • Standard 84V 2A chargers

The scooter came pretty much 90% assembled. After taking the scooter out of the box I needed to take off the plastic wrap, unfold the scooter, and tighten the stem with the deck.

In general, assembling the Kaabo Wolf King GTR is fairly straightforward, but it helps to have some basic tools and a bit of patience.

The thing that I liked the most in the process was the inclusion of a safety pin which provided an extra layer of security.

Performance

front side of the Kaabo GTR

As someone who has been riding freestyle scooters for years, I loved the performance of the Kaabo Wolf King GTR. Let’s take a closer look at it.

Motor

The Kaboo Wolf King GTR has a powerful and efficient motor system, boasting two 2000W brushless DC (BLDC) hub motors.

With a total power output of 4000W, these dual motors contribute to the scooter’s impressive acceleration and top-speed capabilities.

The hub motor design ensures a compact and integrated solution, as the motor is housed within the wheel hub itself. This not only enhances the overall aesthetics of the scooter but also minimizes maintenance requirements.

Speed and speed test

The Kaboo Wolf King GTR is a speed enthusiast’s dream, boasting an official top speed of 65 mph / 104.6 kmh.

I only tested the scooter’s speed up to 50 mph / 80 kmh, which is usually where my courage ends. Still, the experience was nothing short of exhilarating, thanks to the great stability and safety of the scooter. I have no doubt in my mind that the scooter will provide the same level of stability at its top speeds as well.

Range and range test

Kaabo’s Wolf King GTR has an official range of 55 mi / 88.5 km, ideal for city or countryside rides.

However, my tests found slightly lower figures, typically around 47 mi / 75 km.

Don’t forget variations between official claims and actual results are common in the e-scooter world because of factors like riding style, terrain, and rider weight.

Despite these factors, the Wolf King GTR remains a reliable choice for commutes and casual rides, offering an estimated range of up to 50 mi / 80 km in Eco mode, around 43 mi / 70 km in Normal mode, and 37 mi / 60 km in Sport mode.

If this scooter’s range is not big enough for you, check my article on the longest-range electric scooters.

Climb and climb test

Let’s be clear here – the Kaabo Wolf King GTR is designed for the climb!

I tested the Kaabo Wolf King GTR on the steepest hill I could find, probably somewhere around 40° / 84%.

I needed to lean forward with my toes, to shift my weight to the front wheel so I could achieve optimal traction. The Kaabo Wolf King GTR effortlessly mastered the climb.

I must say, this caught me by surprise a bit… Usually, scooter manufacturers over-report the climb angle of their scooters, and the official climb angle of the Kaabo Wolf King GTR is actually 50°, which is very steep. But after my climb tests, I actually believe that the scooter is capable of achieving that, even though I couldn’t find a hill of that incline.

Battery and charging

battery of Kaabo wolf king gtr

The new battery system is entirely removable and self-contained.

It comes with a capacity of 2520 Wh and an electric potential difference of 72V.

And yes, it’s lockable with a combination!!

The official charging time is seven hours, but don’t forget that now you can charge one battery while out riding with another. (which, in a way, means you might have potentially unlimited range!).

When removed, the battery shows a digital readout of current voltage, and the waterproof charging ports are now on the deck.

Ride experience

The Kaabo Wolf King GTR has truly outdone its previous three generations.

Its design didn’t just catch my eye, it practically grabbed my curiosity and refused to let go.

Yet, as we all know, the surface allure is just the tip of the iceberg.

Navigating through traffic, the responsive turn signals and brake lights ensured I was both visible and aware of my surroundings. The anti-theft alarm system provided a sense of security when I had to leave the scooter parked outside.

The 2-in-1 controller, with its new S mode, or “race mode,” unleashed an exhilarating burst of speed, pushing the scooter to almost 50 mph.

The dual suspension system with an 18-step damping adjustment allowed me to fine-tune the scooter’s response to my liking.

After all the ride tests I did, I can confidently say that the Wolf King GTR isn’t just a mode of transportation, it’s a testament to the fusion of style and performance in the world of electric scooters.

Kaabo Wolf King GTR vs other scooter

Let’s compare the Kaabo Wolf King GTR with other electric scooters, examining their features, speed, range, and overall performance.

Kaabo Wolf King GTR vs Dualtron Thunder 3

Kaabo Wolf King GTR VS dualtron thunder 3

When comparing the Kaabo Wolf King GTR with the Dualtron Thunder 3, both electric scooters offer impressive features.

The Kaabo Wolf King GTR takes the lead in top speed, boasting an impressive 64.6 mph / 104 kmh and two 2000W brushless DC (BLDC) hub motors. With a range of 54.9 mi / 88.5 km and hydraulic suspension, it’s designed for thrill-seekers who crave both speed and durability. On the other side, the Dualtron Thunder 3, though slightly slower at 54.9 mph / 88.5 kmh, offers an extended range of 99.4 mi / 160 km, making it a practical choice for longer journeys.

The Kaabo Wolf King GTR climb angle is somewhere around 40°, while the climb angle of Dualtron Thunder 3 is 35°.

Both scooters feature advanced braking systems, with the Thunder 3 employing a Nutt 4 Piston setup and the Wolf King GTR opting for dual Zoom hydraulic disc brakes.

Kaabo Wolf King GTR vs Dualtron Ultra 2

Kaabo wolf king gtr vs dualtron thunder 2

The showdown between the Kaabo Wolf King GTR and the Dualtron Ultra 2 presents a compelling choice for electric scooter enthusiasts.

The Wolf King GTR, priced at $3995, showcases its speed prowess with a top speed of 64.9 mph / 104.6 kmh powered by BLDC hub motors. With a range of 54.9 mi / 88.5 km, it balances speed with endurance, complemented by features like hydraulic front fork suspension and self-healing tubeless hybrid tires.

On the other side, the Dualtron Ultra 2 priced at $4299, is slightly more expensive but packs a punch with a top speed of 61.2 mph / 98.6 kmh and an impressive range of 105 mi / 170 km equipped with 45-step variable rubber suspension.

If you prefer speed and agility Kaabo Wolf King GTR is the perfect choice for you.

Kaabo Wolf King GTR vs Apollo Pro

kaabo wolf king gtr vs apollo pro

Both scooters are similarly priced but when it comes to speed, range, motor, and suspension we can see some differences.

Kaabo Wolf King GTR offers an immersive speed of 104.6 kmh powered by BLDC hub motors. While the Apollo Pro offers a respectable top speed of 70.8 kmh. The speed is the stronger side of the Kaabo Wolf King GTR but when it comes to the range the Wolf offers 54.9 mi / 88.5km, while the Apollo Pro offers a slightly bigger range of 62mi / 99.7 km.

Apollo Pro is equipped with dual drum and regen, while the Kaabo Wolf King GTR’s dual Zoom hydraulic disc brakes offer precise and responsive braking performance, with 160 mm rotors providing excellent heat dissipation for consistent braking power.

If you are someone who wants to push the speed limits all the time, Kaabo Wolf King GTR is the perfect choice for you.

Kaabo Wolf King GTR vs Inmotion RS Midnight

side view of the Inmotion RS Midnight

Choosing between the Kaabo Wolf King GTR and the Inmotion RS is a tough choice. Both e-scooters boast blistering performance but cater to slightly different personalities.

The Wolf King GTR, with a claimed top speed of 65 mph / 104.6 kmh, delivers an exhilarating ride, but sacrifices some range.

Meanwhile, the Inmotion RS, boasting a respectable 52 mph / 84 kmh and a range of 63 mi / 101 km, strikes a balance between speed and range, offering a versatile option for longer commutes and spontaneous joyrides.

The Wolf King GTR excels in conquering steep inclines with its 50° climbing angle, while the Inmotion RS, with a 40° climb angle, handles moderate inclines comfortably.

The Wolf King GTR provides a controlled ride with a stiffer hydraulic suspension, while the Inmotion RS prioritizes comfort with pneumatic tires and a softer suspension, making it more maneuverable in tight spaces.

Ultimately, if you prioritize raw speed and hill-conquering capabilities, go with the Wolf King GTR. If, on the other hand, you want a more balanced speed-to-range ratio and slightly better comfort, pick the Inmotion RS.

Build quality

The GTR’s frame is constructed from high-quality aluminum, offering rigidity and resilience. It can handle bumps and jolts without creaking or wobbling, even at high speeds.

Its hydraulic suspension is top-notch, effortlessly smoothing out rough roads and off-road trails. This not only enhances comfort but also protects the internal components from wear and tear. The high-quality brakes from Zoom ensure excellent stopping power, while the powerful dual motors are built to last.

In general, the Kaabo Wolf King GTR’s build quality is undeniably impressive. It’s a well-engineered beast built to handle speed, rough terrain, and everyday use.

While its weight and potential maintenance needs might be small drawbacks, its overall robustness and attention to detail justify its premium price tag for riders who prioritize quality and performance.

Take a look of Eyebahan’s video for a more visual representation of the quality, beauty, and performance of the Kaabo Wolf King GTR.

Features

Let’s take a look at the Wolf’s features next.

Tires

rare tires

The Kaabo Wolf King GTR comes with both hybrid off-road and street tires.

With an 11-inch diameter and 3.5-inch in width, these robust tires are designed for adventurous rides. Conquering bumpy roads and off-road terrain, they provide stability and confidence during high-speed adventures, ensuring a reliable and controlled experience on diverse surfaces.

This should add roughly 15% to the size of the contact patch, which will help considerably with grip, especially in turns.

What’s more, given the added clearance and these larger rims, I imagine you should have no trouble putting in 12″ (or maybe even 13″) diameter tires without weird modifications like custom swing arms.

Don’t forget to update your settings accordingly!

Brakes

rare tire of kaabo wolf king gtr

The Kaabo Wolf King GTR comes with dual hydraulic brakes. These massive 160 mm rotors are 3 mm thick, so it’ll take a lot of grinding to wear them down.

The GTR model features EABS for anti-lock braking and regenerative braking to enhance overall range.

Keep in mind that hydraulic brakes require periodic maintenance, and there might be a learning curve for riders new to the system.

Tractions control

You didn’t misread that. The Wolf King GTR comes with standard legit traction/electronic stability control that you can turn on or off.

The GTR’s traction control system uses sensors on the wheels to monitor their speed. When one wheel starts spinning faster than the other, indicating a loss of traction, the system automatically reduces power to that wheel, slowing it down and regaining grip.

This prevents the scooter from losing control, skidding, or even flipping over. Plus it saves your tires and maintains traction in turns or wet conditions, without altering the power settings!

But still, don’t forget that if you don’t like this feature, you can just turn it off. I recommend leaving it on, since it can literally save your life in scenarios where the roads are slippery.

Suspension

suspension of kaabo wolf king gtr

The easily destroyed bushings are finally gone! This was such a huge complaint everyone (yours truly included) had.

The rear suspension is now a beefy coilover hydraulic shock that uses top-notch hydraulic oil, with adjustable damping with 18 stops from soft to firm.

The centralized, singular coilover shock is large and robust, and I prefer it over two smaller coilover shocks, since the adjustments with those could potentially be out of sync. This way the swing arm will have even pressure across the width of the scooter at all times, which seems much safer to me.

The newly adjustable damping front forks have a slightly longer travel, by 2mm.

Yeah, you read that right!

Adjustment knobs on the top allow you to set it to your weight and liking, from soft to firm, via knobs easily accessible at the top of the stems, where the handlebars are mounted.

Controller

controller

The Wolf King GTR features a cutting-edge 2-in-1 sine wave motor controller, enhancing its power and performance.

The S mode boosts output from 100A to 110A, in some cases even unlocking a top speed of nearly 70 mph / 112.6 kmh when riding downhill, and quicker acceleration, earning it the nickname “race mode.”

Compared to its predecessor, the Wolf GT, this advanced technology ensures smoother acceleration and effortless speed maintenance, a crucial advantage in the evolving landscape of competitive scooter racing.

TFT screen

The display of Kaabo Wolf King GTR

The Kaabo Wolf King GTR boasts a sleek and informative TFT display that serves as your command center while on the road. The TFT display features bright and vivid colors, ensuring information is easily readable even in direct sunlight.

Also, the display is positioned centrally on the handlebars, allowing for glances without compromising riding control.

Here’s a breakdown of its key features:

  • Speedometer: Monitor your current speed in real time, ensuring you stay within legal limits and navigate with awareness.
  • Trip Meter: Track your total distance on various rides, letting you measure progress and plan your adventures.
  • Odometer: Keep tabs on the overall mileage your GTR has traveled, showcasing its reliability and endurance.
  • Battery Level: Stay informed about your remaining battery life, preventing unexpected power shortages and ensuring you reach your destination.
  • Riding Mode: Easily switch between different riding modes (Pedestrian, Eco, Sport, Boost) to optimize performance for various terrains and scenarios.
  • Time: Keep track of time while gliding through the streets, ensuring you don’t lose track of the day.
  • Additional Options: Depending on the specific model and firmware version, the display might also show details like motor temperature, current voltage, and even trip duration.

Throttle

throttle of kaabo wolf king gtr

The new throtlle is a trigger-style throttle. Some of you prefer that, while others don’t. So, this is a mixed bag in my opinion.

For me, I prefer the thumb throttle, so I plan to swap it for one.

Fortunately, thumb throttles are very inexpensive and super easy to swap out. Not a dealbreaker for me at all.

Anti-theft mode

The Kaabo Wolf King GTR boasts a multi-layered anti-theft system that would make any opportunistic thief reconsider their lunch break heist plans.

Its robust frame and hefty weight act as a natural intimidation factor. Who wants to wrestle a metallic wolf in broad daylight?

The GTR comes equipped with a robust built-in alarm system that unleashes a piercing siren, violent vibrations, and motor lock if anyone attempts to tamper with it.

Pedestrian mode

While the Kaabo Wolf King GTR might roar with ferocious speed and conquer hills like a beast, it also has a surprisingly gentle side – the pedestrian mode.

Imagine conquering a steep incline on your GTR, then smoothly transitioning to pedestrian mode as you approach a crowded sidewalk, or if you are a student just entering your campus. No need to dismount or struggle to carry its hefty weight. Simply activate the mode, and the powerful motors become docile giants, guiding the scooter at a slow, comfortable pace.

Waterproofing and IP rating

Considerable improvements were made here compared to previous versions. The official rating is IPX5.

The GTR controller is now housed in a waterproof interior container, inside the water-resistant cover that existed in the GT.

The battery is in a fully waterproofed and isolated container as well, and, as already mentioned, is removable, which is quite a feat, since having the battery be both removable and waterproof is not that common.

The deck compartment that holds the battery now has a drain point for the egress (evacuation) of water.

So, the battery is fully protected, and the water cannot build up within the deck.

Given the new wheel/motor design I’d guess that they’re considerably more water-resistant as well, since you’ll never have to remove them.

Light

the light of Kaabo Wolf King GTR

The rear lights still include the smoked cover that doesn’t let light pass through easily. The good side is that this looks nice and stylish, as it did with its predecessor.

They updated the side lighting to be integral with the turn signals and brake lights, so there’s unobstructed light coming directly from the sides of the scooter, for better all-around visibility of your turn signals and brake lights, especially at night.

Dimensions and weight limit

the deck of kaboo wolf king gtr

Unfortunately, some weight was added to our beloved Wolf King in this GTR configuration, as it went from 115 lbs / 52 kg to a much beefier 136.6 lbs / 62 kg.

But, don’t forget that this scooter has an excellent weight limit of 330 lbs / 150 kg. So, if you are looking for an electric scooter for heavy riders, this is the perfect one for you.

These are the dimensions of the scooter:

Kaabo Wolf King GTRLengthWidthHeight
Unfolded129.28 cm / 50.8 in74.67 cm / 68.7 in134.62 cm / 53 in
Folded162.81 cm / 64 in74.67 / 68.7 in53.08 / 20 in

Kickstand

The new kickstand is smooth and sleek, and not likely to rip a 3″ hole in your ankles.

The deck has been raised by 1.2 inc / 30 mm, from 228mm to 258mm, for added clearance. This makes room for larger tires and easier to get over obstacles, but without being such a large increase as to make it harder to mount.

Accessories

The coolest accessory you can (and probably should) consider is the fingerprint lock. But still, you should consider getting a strong scooter lock anyway, as this is quite an expensive item and you will want it to have as many security layers as possible.

For this type of scooter, there is only one type of recommended helmet, and that’s a full-face motorcycle helmet. Take this seriously and always wear it when riding, as the scooter has crazy acceleration and power. Check out the guides on electric scooter helmets and electric scooter accessories to find some good items.

Problems and tradeoffs

The GTR is a bit of a weighty warrior. It’s pretty simple here, actually – if you’re looking for a portable scooter, look elsewhere.

It’s also not the easiest to maneuver, especially in tight spaces or for smaller riders.

The scooter is on the pricey side, but that reflects the premium performance and build quality you’re getting. Just be ready to make a bit of an investment. However, if you’re not ready to spend almost 4 grand on your brand new electric scooter, then check out my guides on the best scooters under $2500 or the best scooters under $1500.

Occasional hiccups with the hydraulic suspension are also expected, but that’s a minor tradeoff for the overall reliability. Keep in mind, that while it handles moderate off-road, extreme terrain might be pushing it.

So, its weight, price tag, and minor strategy should be carefully considered before you unleash this wolf on your next ride. However, other than those few tradeoffs, the scooter doesn’t really have any serious downsides, which can be expected from the successor of the Kaabo Wolf King throne.

Verdict

The Kaabo Wolf King GTR is a beast of an electric scooter, perfect for adventurous riders who prioritize raw power, performance, and control.

If the thrill of conquering various terrains, steep hills, and devouring asphalt outweighs the drawbacks, the Kaabo Wolf King GTR might just be your perfect electric scooter companion.

In most cases, I believe it will come down to the budget. This is definitely not a cheap scooter…

But!

If you can afford it… boy, do I envy you… and definitely go for it!

Just remember, ride responsibly, but also don’t forget to enjoy one insanely wild ride!
