When to buy
The Speedway Mini 4 Pro is perfect for urban commuters looking for an affordable yet dynamic electric scooter. With a focus on an enjoyable and practical ride, the Speedway Mini 4 Pro is a solid option for those working within a budget.
When not to buy
The Speedway Mini 4 Pro may not suit those prioritizing advanced features and top-tier specifications over affordability. If you’re seeking cutting-edge technology, superior water resistance, or an extended range, this scooter might not meet your expectations. Taller riders could experience discomfort due to its compact design. If you’re willing to invest in a high-end electric scooter with premium features, exploring other models may better align with your preferences.
The Speedway Mini 4 Pro has been creating quite a buzz among mid-range commuter scooters globally ever since it hit the market.
In this review, I’ll take you through every detail I observed during the couple of days I spent testing this scooter.
Basics
Let’s find out about some of the basics of the Speedway Mini 4 Pro.
Unboxing and assembly
The Speedway Mini 4 Pro comes in a big, brown, unassuming box, but it is definitely a box that hides a treasure inside.
Besides the scooter, you will find a charger, a tool kit, and a user manual.
Assembling the Speedway Mini is straightforward and user-friendly, ensuring riders can hit the road swiftly and effortlessly.
Performance
Here are the most important aspects of Speedway Mini 4 Pro’s performance you should know about.
Motor
The Speedway Mini is powered by a 1360-watt BLDC hub motor, which is more than enough power for almost everyone for their daily commuting in my opinion.
The motor delivers instant torque and smooth acceleration that not every commuter has.
Speed and speed test
The Speedway Mini has an official top speed of 28 mph / 45 kmh.
In my speed tests, the Speedway Mini didn’t reach its claimed top speed.
There are some people who say that they reached a top speed of 30 mph / 48 kmh, which is a bit faster than the official top speed.
In any case, while this is a satisfying and enjoyable speed, if you’re looking for something faster, check out my guide on the fastest electric scooters.
Range and range test
The official range of the Speedway Mini is 30 miles / 48 km, but the manufacturers do say that the range may vary depending on the rider’s weight, and that is partially true, at least according to my experience.
My testing only managed to reach a range of 27 miles / 43 km at pretty high speeds for the majority of the ride, which is pretty good in my opinion.
If this range isn’t enough for you, check out my guide on the best long-range electric scooters.
Climbing and climb test
The 1360-watt BLDC hub motor offers a great official climb angle of 27 degrees.
Before testing the climb angle, I fully charged the scooter so it could give me the best result.
The official climb angle was pretty easy to achieve, so I went to a steeper hill that had an angle of around 30 degrees, and the scooter managed to climb it.
But, in my opinion, that climb angle wouldn’t be reached if the battery wasn’t full.
If you need a scooter with similar or even stronger climbing angles, check out my guide on the best climbing electric scooters.
Ride experience
It’s been an enjoyable couple of days riding the Speedway Mini 4 Pro through the streets of my city.
The scooter provides a comfortable ride despite not having two tubed pneumatic tires, and that comfort is provided by the suspension in my opinion, but rather by the overall build quality, design, and composition.
While the scooter has a decent top speed, it didn’t fulfill my adrenaline needs and this may be the only flaw of the scooter.
All in all, I’m very satisfied with what this scooter brings to the table for its price, especially when it comes to casual everyday usage.
Speedway Mini 4 Pro vs other scooters
Let’s see how the Speedway Mini 4 Pro compares to other scooters.
Speedway Mini 4 Pro vs Xiaomi Mi Pro 2
A lot of people are making this comparison and clearly, there isn’t a winner because both scooters are excellent in their own way.
Both models offer zippy rides suitable for urban commutes, but key differences emerge.
The Speedway Mini 4 Pro boasts a more powerful motor, better range, and impressive climbing abilities, making it a contender for thrill-seekers.
On the other hand, the Xiaomi Pro 2 emphasizes a sleek design, better quality, lower defect rates, more comfortable rides, and a reputable brand.
If a good design and a proven track records are your priorities, check out my review of the Xiaomi Mi Pro 2.
Speedway Mini 4 Pro vs Dualtron Mini
One of the hardest decisions to make is choosing between the Speedway and Dualtron Mini in my opinion.
The Speedway Mini 4 Pro has advantages when it comes to portability, weight limit, and price.
Meanwhile, the Dualtron Mini brings its own set of strengths, emphasizing better performance, enhanced suspension, and top-notch stability.
I’d recommend the Dualtron Mini as the more performant but also more expensive option.
Build quality
When I saw the scooter for the first time it didn’t look anything fancy and I thought its like any other mid-range price commuter.
But I have to tell you that I was far from the truth. Maybe it isn’t flashy but the build quality of this scooter is on another level when you compare it to its price.
Every component seamlessly integrates into a sturdy whole, showcasing meticulous attention to detail in weld precision and frame resilience.
This scooter is a well-crafted machine built to endure diverse terrains, offering riders a reliable, long-lasting companion on their journeys.
Features
Here are some of the features of the Speedway you should know about.
Battery and charging
The battery and charging system of the Mini 4 is efficient and reliable in my opinion.
The scooter has a 48 volt, 15.6 Ah, 748 Wh Panasonic cells battery, this scooter ensures riders can confidently navigate their urban journeys with minimal worrying.
Recharging takes a bit over six hours to reach full capacity with the standard charger and with a fast charger it’s even less, which is very decent for a battery with these specs in my opinion.
Brakes
The Speedway 4 Mini features a regenerative electric rear drum brake, this electric scooter ensures reliable and responsive stopping power, even at a higher speed.
The braking mechanism offers riders a sense of confidence and reassurance, allowing for precise control in various riding conditions.
Simply put, the brakes are excellent, no complaints there.
Suspension
This scooter has a dual suspension which gives a great ride even when the road gets bumpy.
Iwas quite surprised at how comfortable the rides were with this scooter. I didn’t see it coming from a scooter with tires so small and no real suspension.
Tires and fenders
The Speedway features an 8-inch tubed pneumatic front tire and solid rubber rear tire, offering a blend of durability and comfort at the same time.
The scooter has a front half-length fender and a rear full-length fender, which are made of durable plastic that shields against mud and keeps you and the scooter clean during rides through puddles or city grime.
These fenders also contribute to the scooter’s style, seamlessly integrating with its beautiful design.
Lights
The Mini 4 Pro isn’t the scooter that will make you stand out from the crowd with its lights. It has a dual front and rear LED lights.
For my preference, the scooter needs more lights because the ones that it has won’t light up the road in front of you at night.
The positive side of this is that you have plenty of space to mount some aftermarket lights.
Screen and controls
As with most Minimotors models, this scooter comes with the legendary EY3 display that offers a user-friendly interface that provides instant access to essential information, allowing you to monitor battery levels, adjust riding modes, and navigate effortlessly.
The controls are designed for precision, giving riders a responsive and seamless experience, while the handlebars have ergonomically designed grips that can be replaceable and brake leavers.
App
The scooter can connect to the Minimotors app when the Bluetooth symbol lights up.
This user-friendly app provides a seamless connection between your smartphone and the scooter, offering features such as real-time ride tracking, customizable LED lighting controls, and firmware updates for optimal performance.
Weight, dimensions, and portability
The Speedway Mini 4 Pro weighs only 36 lbs / 16 kg and it is a pretty light electric scooter to carry around, so with that, the scooter is very portable.
The scooter’s dimensions when folded are 38 x 7 x 13 in / 97 x 18 x 33 cm, and 40 x 21 x 46 in / 102 x 53 x 118 cm when unfolded. I did manage to put it in the trunk of my car (Ford Fiesta) without any problem.
Weight limit
The weight limit of the Speedway Mini is a substantial 265 pounds / 120 kg. This generous weight capacity ensures versatility and accommodates a broad range of users, making the Mini an inclusive and accessible choice for electric scooter enthusiasts.
If you are above the weight limit, check out my guide on the best electric scooters for heavy-riders.
Water resistance and waterproof
The scooter features an IP54 water resistance rating, providing a commendable level of protection against water splashes and light rain.
This means the scooter can confidently navigate through damp conditions, ensuring its reliability in various weather scenarios.
I wouldn’t recommend regularly driving the scooter in wet conditions as it isn’t fully waterproof (even though I tried out the scooter on one semi-rainy day, and I had absolutely no issues at all).
If you enjoy riding in the rain and don’t want to worry at all, I would still suggest getting a scooter with a better IP rating (check out my guide on the best waterproof electric scooters).
Accessories and customization
Check out my guide on electric scooter accessories for general recommendations, as there are no custom-tailored accessories for this model in particular.
Also, even if this scooter isn’t the fastest, make sure to always wear a proper scooter helmet. I used a full-face helmet during my rides, and I recommend you do the same.
Security and locks
I recommend getting some stronger, more expensive lock (or two) that will provide peace of mind (see the guide on the best electric scooter locks for some great picks).
Issues and downsides
The Speedway Mini 4 Pro has gained popularity, but it comes with notable issues.
Many users have reported occasional suspension problems, resulting in a less-than-smooth ride.
Taller riders may find the compact design uncomfortable, and concerns about the long-term durability of certain components have been raised.
I personally, didn’t find any issues with the Mini for the couple of days that I was testing it.
In the end, you will have to see for yourself if these issues and downsides would really annoy you.
Verdict
The Speedway Mini 4 Pro offers an enjoyable and affordable electric scooter experience, ideal for urban commutes.
It’s a solid mid-range choice with some minor trade-offs, like basic lights and an outdated display.
In my opinion, you can’t go wrong with this scooter if you are in the market for a mid-range electric scooter, especially if ride experience is your priority.
