Basics

Let’s find out about some of the basics of the Kaabo Mantis King GT.

Unboxing and assembly

Kaabo mantis king gt unboxing

The Kaabo Mantis King GT comes in a big box. Besides the scooter, you will find 2 chargers, a Kaabo sticker, a tool kit, rubber covers, and a user manual.

Assembling the Kaabo Mantis GT is straightforward and user-friendly, ensuring riders can hit the road swiftly and effortlessly. I was left shocked at how easy was the assembly of the scooter and didn’t have to lose any time.

Folding and unfolding

The Kaabo Mantis King GT boasts an upgraded folding mechanism for easy and secure use. Before lifting the stem, ensure the hook is unlatched.

Rotate the TFT display away from the deck. The three-part locking system involves pulling up and spinning the red knob, placing the silver hook under the latch, and pressing inward to secure. Rotate the red knob back into place.

To fold, disengage the red knob, pull the lever outward, and lift the silver hook. Rotate the TFT display away before folding. Attach the rear hook to the deck. This efficient mechanism ensures quick, hassle-free packing.

Performance

Here are the most important aspects of Kaabo Mantis King GT’s performance you should know about.

Motor

Kaabo mantis king gt motor

The Kaabo Mantis King GT is powered by a dual motor.

Each 1100W brushless DC hub motor unleashes a combined 4200W peak power, which is more than enough power for almost everyone in my opinion.

They deliver instant torque, smooth acceleration, and the kind of raw power that makes conquering any terrain very easy.

Speed and speed test

The Mantis King GT stands out as the fastest Mantis model.

Its official top speed is 43 mph / 69 kmh, firmly securing its position as one of the fastest light-heavyweight electric scooters.

I tried out the Mantis for one week, and I managed to test its top speed a couple of times, but the fastest I managed to get was 45 mph / 72 kmh, which is a bit faster than the official top speed.

The scooter offers 5 programmable modes, each dictating the top speed, and intriguingly, allows the option to engage either single or dual motors within each mode.

If you want to see which scooters are the fastest, check out my guide on the fastest electric scooters.

Range and range test

The manufacturer says that the official range of the Kaabo Mantis King GT is 56 miles / 90 km, but doesn’t clarify at which speed that range is possible.

My testing only managed to reach a range of 52 miles / 83 km at pretty high speeds for the majority of the ride, which is extremely good in my opinion.

If this range isn’t enough for you, check out my guide on the best long-range electric scooters.

Climbing and climb test

a guy climbing hill with his electric scooter.

The dual-motor offers a great official climb angle of 30 degrees.

Before testing the climb angle, I fully charged the scooter so it could give me the best result.

The official climb angle was pretty easy to achieve, so I went to the steepest hill in my city to test the angle further. The hill has an angle of around 35 degrees, and the scooter managed to climb it easily.

But, in my opinion, that climb angle wouldn’t be reached if the battery wasn’t full.

If you need a scooter with similar or even stronger climbing angles, check out my guide on the best climbing electric scooters.

Ride experience

Kaabo mantis king gt

It’s been a wild week cruising around on the Kaabo Mantis King GT, and let me tell you, this scooter ain’t your average ride.

I was left shocked by the build quality and elegant and sporty design at the same time that this scooter has.

On my first ride I was left without a breath from the quick acceleration and the final speed, even got scared a bit.

The Mantis King GT has a very comfortable ride which is provided by the hydraulic suspension and 10-inch hybrid pneumatic tires, which also make the scooter excellent for off-road.

All in all, I’m very satisfied with what this scooter brings to the table for its price.

Kaabo Mantis King GT vs other scooters

Let’s see how the Mantis King GT compares to other scooters with a similar price or class.

Kaabo Mantis King GT vs Apollo Phantom V3

Kaabo mantis king vs apollo phantom v3

The Kaabo Mantis King GT and Apollo Phantom V3 stand out as top contenders for the category of high-performance electric scooters in the price range of around $2,000.

The Mantis King GT offers dual 1100W motors for 4200W peak power and an impressive 56-mile range with its 60V 24Ah battery. For comparison, the Phantom V3 features dual 1200W motors, reaching 4800W peak power, and a respectable 43-mile range from its 60V 21Ah battery.

Both prioritize ride comfort, with the Mantis King GT having hydraulic suspension and the Phantom V3 offering hydraulic brakes and adjustable suspension.

I advise to choose based on your priorities. The Mantis King GT is better for power and range, while the Phantom V3 has a more compact design and slightly better ride comfort.

Consider that the Mantis King GT is slightly pricier. If you are leaning towards comfort and design, check out my review of the Apollo Phantom V3.

Kaabo Mantis King GT vs VSETT 10+

Kaabo mantis king vs vsett 10+

A lot of people are starting to compare the VSETT 10+ with the Mantis King GT.

The VSETT 10+ packs a punch with dual 1200W motors, reaching a combined 4800W peak power, slightly more than the Mantis.

It also offers a respectable range of up to 43.5 mi / 70 km thanks to its 60V 21Ah battery. When it comes to range, the Mantis King GT reigns supreme.

The Mantis King GT makes your ride softer with hydraulic suspension, ensuring a luxurious glide, while the VSETT 10+ relies on adjustable spring suspension, which, while pretty good, is not as good as the suspension of the Mantis.

If you ask me, I would choose the Mantis every day of the week over the VSETT 10+.

Kaabo Mantis King GT vs Nami Klima

Kaabo mantis king vs nami klima

One difference is that the Mantis King GT boasts dual 1100W motors, reaching a formidable 4200W peak power, while the Nami Klima packs dual 1200W motors for a total of 4800W peak power. So, the Nami Klima is slightly more powerful, but not in a very noticeable way.

When it comes to range, the Mantis King GT stands out with its massive battery, offering up to 56 mi / 90 km, while the Nami Klima provides a respectable range of up to 43.5 mi / 70 km.

The Mantis King GT features a hydraulic suspension for a smooth ride, while the Nami Klima relies on adjustable air suspension for a controlled and responsive journey.

The Mantis King GT takes the lead for power and extended range, but for a more compact design, a comfortable ride, and additional features like a built-in kickstand and integrated lights, the Nami Klima might be the ideal choice (if you are more interested check out my review of the Nami Klima).

Build quality

The Mantis King GT is crafted with meticulous attention to detail. It features a robust frame that combines strength and agility, ensuring stability during exhilarating rides.

The scooter’s construction integrates premium materials, showcasing a commitment to longevity and resilience against the rigors of urban exploration.

And I must say that the build quality is amazing, and made this scooter one of my favorites!

From the sturdy handlebars to the reinforced deck, every component reflects the dedication to providing riders with a reliable and enduring electric scooter experience, with a focus on both form and function.

Features

These are some of the features that the Kaabo Mantis GT boasts.

Battery and charging

Kaabo mantis king gt charging

The battery and charging system of the Kaabo Mantis King GT epitomize efficiency and reliability, underscoring its position as a premium electric scooter.

Powered by a Samsung 60V 24Ah battery, this scooter ensures riders can confidently navigate their urban journeys with minimal range anxiety.

Recharging takes a bit over six hours to reach full capacity, which is very decent for a battery of this size in my opinion.

Brakes

Kaabo mantis king gt brakes

The scooter is equipped with Zoom hydraulics and boasts exceptionally responsive brakes, ensuring riders can confidently bring this powerhouse to a halt with precision and efficiency.

These are the one of best brakes I have tried ever, at least for my preference.

The braking performance is further exemplified by a short stopping distance, measuring just 2.1 meters from 15 mph / 24 kmh, providing a level of control that matches the scooter’s impressive speed.

Suspension

Kaabo mantis king gt suspension

The suspension system sets a new standard for comfort and adaptability.

It has an easily adjustable hydraulic suspension, and the scooter ensures a smooth and controlled ride across various terrains.

The suspension can be fine-tuned to cater to individual preferences and terrain conditions.

This feature transforms the riding experience, offering riders the flexibility to customize their scooter’s suspension for optimal comfort and performance.

Here is a video of Levin explaining how to adjust the suspension.

I would say that this scooter is pretty good for off-road riding, but if you prefer a classic off-road electric scooter, check out my guide on the best off-road electric scooters.

Tires and fenders

The scooter features robust 10-inch hybrid pneumatic tires, which provide riders with a reliable grip on various surfaces.

These tires and the scooter’s dual hydraulic suspension ensure a smooth and controlled ride, whether cruising on city streets or tackling off-road trails.

The innovative fender design, while elongated for enhanced splash protection, showcases the scooter’s commitment to rider experience.

Though there have been considerations for improvement in the rear fender design to eliminate slapping against the tire, Kaabo includes an alternative, more rigid fender in the package, offering riders a customizable solution.

Lights

Kaabo mantis king gt tft lights at night

The Mantis GT King stands out as a scooter that effortlessly lights up any space it enters – quite literally.

It features an elevated headlight and bright low-mounted lights, significantly enhancing visibility at night.

The high-mounted light and vibrant RGB swag LED lights not only improve safety but also amplify the scooter’s sporty, street-racing vibe.

If these lights aren’t enough for your night ride which I can’t believe to be, check out my guide on the best electric scooter aftermarket lights.

In a safety and convenience upgrade, the Mantis King GT introduces separate brake and turn signal lights, each with indicator lights on the control buttons. This improvement enhances user safety and simplifies operation compared to earlier Mantis models.

Screen and controls

Kaabo Mantis King GT screen display

The Mantis King GT adopts the adjustable 4-inch anti-glare color TFT display borrowed from the Wolf King GT, ensuring visibility even in bright sunlight. This comprehensive display provides crucial information such as:

  • average speed
  • maximum speed
  • selected gear
  • remaining battery
  • distance covered

The neatly arranged handlebar features clearly marked buttons.

On the left, the control cluster includes headlight and indicator controls, electric horn, and Power/TFT controls, while the rear brake lever sits at the end.

On the right, the ergonomic thumb throttle and front brake lever are easily accessible, contributing to a streamlined and efficient setup.

Weight, dimensions, and portability

The Mantis King GT, weighing only 74 lbs / 33 kg, maintains a sturdy build without sacrificing maneuverability. Its well-balanced dimensions contribute to a comfortable and ergonomic riding experience.

I managed to put the scooter in my friend’s car (Fiat Uno) without any problem.

The efficient folding mechanism, while not the lightest, still facilitates easy storage and transport.

While its weight may be a factor for extended carrying, I’d say the scooter still excels in delivering a robust and foldable design, ideal for urban commuters who prioritize durability and convenience.

Anyway, if you prefer to have a scooter that is more portable, you will probably not pick this one. Check out my guide on the most portable electric scooters for that.

Weight limit

The weight limit of the Kaabo Mantis King GT is a substantial 265 pounds / 120 kg. This generous weight capacity ensures versatility and accommodates a broad range of users, making the Mantis King GT an inclusive and accessible choice for electric scooter enthusiasts.

If you are above than this weight limit, check out my guide on the best electric scooters for heavy-riders.

Water resistance and waterproof

The Kaabo Mantis King GT features an IPX5 water resistance rating, providing a commendable level of protection against water splashes and light rain.

This means the scooter can confidently navigate through damp conditions, ensuring its reliability in various weather scenarios.

I wouldn’t recommend regularly driving the scooter in wet conditions as it isn’t fully waterproof (even though I tried out the scooter on one semi-rainy day, and I had absolutely no issues at all).

If you enjoy riding in the rain and don’t have to worry at all, I would still suggest getting a scooter with a better IP rating (consider checking out my guide on the best waterproof electric scooters).

Accessories and customization

You can have a better experience with a range of accessories and customization options tailored to suit this scooter and your style and needs.

From custom grips and deck stickers to LED light kits and phone mounts, the scooter offers a versatile platform for personalization. The availability of aftermarket upgrades allows riders to fine-tune their Mantis King GT to their preference (for the best aftermarket accessories, check out my guide on electric scooter accessories).

Also, this is a pretty fast scooter, so make sure to always wear a proper scooter helmet. I used a full-face helmet during my rides, and I recommend you do the same.

Security and locks

The scooter isn’t very cheap, and a simple lock of medium security won’t save this scooter from thieves. I recommend getting some stronger, more expensive locking systems that provide peace of mind (see the guide on the best electric scooter locks for some great picks).

Issues and downsides

While the Kaabo Mantis King GT stands out as a powerful and feature-rich electric scooter, it’s essential to be aware of potential issues and downsides.

Some users have reported concerns related to the overall weight of the scooter, making it less convenient for extended carrying. Personally, I didn’t find this to be a major downside, but it’s definitely not the lightest scooter out there.

Additionally, riders in regions with specific regulations might also face challenges related to the scooter’s power and speed capabilities. This is particularly true in countries of the EU, where these types of laws are usually enforced more.

One minor issue I was kind of annoyed by was a bit of a dead space on the throttle. You may find that you need to press the throttle slightly more than you would expect to get the scooter going. The acceleration was still great in my opinion.

Finally, the price point of this scooter may be outside of the budget range for many would-be owners. If you’re working with less than $2,000, make sure to see my guides on the best electric scooters under $1,500 and the best scooters under $1,000.

Verdict

This scooter presents an impressive package of power, performance, and features, making it a standout. When you look at the price tag, I think it’s worth every penny.

The scooter also provides a healthy mix of quality, safety, comfort, and ease of use.

In my opinion, there is no way you can go wrong with this scooter. If your budget is around $2000 and you’re looking for the best scooter in that price range, the Kaabo Mantis King GT will be a great choice.
