In this comprehensive review, we’ll check out the awesome features of the Apollo Air and discover what sets it apart from other scooters.

Let’s dig into some basic information about the Apollo Air.

Unboxing and assembly

Unboxing and assembly of Apollo Air is a breeze, paving the way for your first smooth ride in no time.

Inside the box you’ll find the scooter itself, the handlebar stem, charger, tools, and a user manual.

Locate the handlebar stem and the scooter’s deck. Using the included tools, securely attach the stem to the deck by tightening the bolts. Don’t over-tighten – a gentle snugness is enough.

Connect the provided charger to the scooter’s charging port, located near the deck. The LED indicator will illuminate, letting you know the charging process has begun.

Flip the unlocking lever on the stem, and unfold the handlebars smoothly. Adjust the handlebar height to your comfort using the quick-release clamp and you are ready for your first ride.

Next, let’s see how the Apollo Air performs in more detail.

Motor and motor power

The Apollo Air, equipped with a robust 500-watt motor, is tailored for novice and leisure riders.

My performance tests confirmed that. I achieved a 5.4-second acceleration from a standstill to 15 mph, surpassing last year’s model by 0.2 seconds.

Notably, the power specifications remain consistent, but the inclusion of Apollo’s more efficient thumb throttle in the new version likely accounts for this enhanced acceleration.

Speed and speed test

The official top speed of Apollo Air is 21 mph / 33.8 kmh.

While its advertised top speed of 21 mph might not sound like a heart-pounding thrill, my tests have shown it reaching slightly higher velocities under ideal conditions.

The true beauty of the Air lies in its flexibility. Riders can opt for a relaxed 12 mph / 19 kmh cruise through city streets or unlock the full potential for a breezy 21 mph jaunt along bike paths.

This adjustable speed range caters to both cautious newcomers and seasoned scooter enthusiasts, making the Air a versatile option for urban mobility.

However, it is not the fastest scooter out there and if you’re a speed enthusiast you should take a look at my list for fastest electric scooters.

Range and range test

The official range of Apollo Air is 31 mi / 50 km.

Boasting this impressive range, the Apollo Air sets itself apart in the beginner category as a dependable companion for extended journeys.

Also, this impressive distance capability ensures that riders can confidently tackle daily commutes, errands, or leisurely rides without the concern of constantly recharging.

This kind of range is okay for city commuting, but if you’re after a scooter that offers more, you should check out other options from my list for best long-range scooters.

Climb and climb test

The official climb angle of the Apollo Air is 10° / 17.6 %.

This translates to effortless ascents over moderate slopes and smooth transitions over uneven terrain. You can navigate busy streets with confidence, knowing you can tackle unexpected bumps and sidewalk ramps with ease.

But if you live somewhere with lots of hills and this climb angle is not good enough for you, check my articles on the best electric for hill climbing.

Battery and charging

The Apollo Air e-scooter feature a potent 36 V, 15 Ah, 540 Wh battery, but the noteworthy enhancement lies in the utilization of a Samsung-branded battery equipped with energy-dense 21700 cells.

This strategic upgrade results in a boosted energy capacity, enabling this version to achieve an extended range compared to its predecessor. Beyond the range extension, the Samsung battery brings added advantages in terms of durability and reliability.

Notably, the charging time remains efficient at 7 hours, maintaining a balance between quick turnaround and extended usage.

Ride experience

The Apollo Air provides an exhilarating and joyful ride.

Enhanced acceleration, thanks to the efficient thumb throttle, caters to both beginners and casual riders. The upgraded Samsung battery with 21700 cells extends the scooter’s range and ensures consistent performance.

Navigating urban landscapes is effortless, and with a 7-hour charging time, you can quickly recharge for their next adventure.

The Apollo Air offers a dynamic and dependable ride for those seeking a thrilling yet reliable electric scooter experience.

Apollo Air vs other scooters

Let’s take a look at the Apollo Air comperison with others scooters in the same price cathegory.

Apollo Air vs VSETT 8

apollo air 2023 vs VSETT 8

The Apollo Air and VSETT 8 electric scooters are both priced at $999 most of the time.

In terms of speed, the VSETT 8 outpaces the Apollo Air with a top speed of 26 mph / 42 kmh, while the Apollo Air reaches 21 mph / 33.8 kmh.

The Apollo Air, however, boasts a slightly longer range of 31 mi / 50 km compared to the VSETT 8’s 29.8 mi / 48 km.

Both scooters feature a real power output of 500W. The Apollo Air is equipped with a 540Wh Samsung-branded battery, while the VSETT 8 has a 750Wh battery.

Build quality

Crafted with precision and durability in mind, the Apollo Air boasts a robust build quality constructed from 6061 aircraft-grade aluminum. This high-quality material not only ensures a sturdy and resilient frame but also contributes to the scooter’s overall lightweight design, enhancing maneuverability and ease of use.

With this superior build, the Apollo Air delivers a combination of strength and agility, promising a long-lasting and satisfying riding experience.

Let’s take a look into the impressive features of Apollo Air.

tire apollo air 2023

The Apollo Air is equipped with advanced 10-inch tubeless pneumatic tires, each measuring 2.4 inches in width to provide heightened stability and grip during rides.

These tires feature self-healing gel lines, instantly sealing punctures to prevent pressure loss and ensure uninterrupted journeys.

The tubeless design not only eliminates the risk of pinch flats but also comes pre-slimed for additional puncture resistance, offering worry-free adventures.

The Apollo Air scooter boasts a hybrid braking system for safe and controlled stopping.

The powerful disc brake, equipped with a caliper that squeezes pads against a rotor on the wheel, handles the majority of the stopping power. It delivers precise and reliable braking even in wet weather, giving you confidence on downhill slopes and busy streets.

The rare drum brake provides additional support, especially during longer braking engagements. It’s housed within the rear wheel hub, protecting it from the elements and debris.

The disc brake offers potent stopping power, while the drum brake adds stability and reduces wear on the disc brake components.

The display of Apollo Air is a small, rectangular LCD screen that is located in the center of the handlebars.

It is easy to read in both bright and low-light conditions.

The display shows the following information:

  • Speed
  • Battery level
  • Riding mode (Eco, Comfort, Sport)
  • Headlight indicator
  • Turn signal indicator
  • Odometer

The display is controlled by four buttons that are located on the handlebars.

Overall, the display of the Apollo Air is simple and easy to use. It provides all of the information that you need to know while you are riding.

The display is not waterproof, so you should avoid riding in the rain.

suspension of Apollo Air 2023

The Apollo Air has a front dual fork suspension system that is designed to provide a smooth and comfortable ride, even on rough terrain.

The suspension system consists of two spring-loaded forks that absorb bumps and shocks, and it can be adjusted to different levels of stiffness to suit your riding style and preferences.

The Apollo Air’s suspension system is one of its best features, and it’s one of the things that makes it a great choice for riders who are looking for a comfortable and enjoyable ride.

If you’re looking for an electric scooter that can handle rough roads and provide you with a smooth ride, the Apollo Air is a great option.

The suspension system is made of high-quality aluminum alloy, which is strong and durable.

The forks are adjustable, so you can find the perfect level of stiffness for your riding style.

The suspension system is easy to maintain, and it doesn’t require any special tools or skills.

Weight and portability

Weighing in at a modest 38 lbs / 17.4 kg, the Apollo Air strikes a balance between sturdiness and portability. This relatively lightweight design makes it easy for riders to carry or maneuver the scooter when needed, enhancing its overall portability.

The thoughtful consideration of weight in its design contributes to a seamless and hassle-free riding experience, where users can effortlessly transport the scooter to various destinations, broadening the scope of its practicality for riders on the move.

apollo air 2023 light

The Apollo Air comes equipped with a comprehensive lighting package designed for safety and visibility, both in daylight and low-light conditions.

Apollo Air is equipped with front headlight. You can tilt the headlight up and down to direct the beam where you need it most.

It also has a rear brake light built into the frame, which flashes brightly upon braking, alerting other road users of your slowing down.

Compared to previous models, the Apollo Air’s lights offer increased brightness and better positioning for enhanced safety during day or night rides.

Waterproofing and IP Rating

The Apollo Air boasts an IP54 rating, signifying a commendable level of protection against dust and water ingress.

This IP rating indicates that the electric scooter is well-guarded against dust particles, ensuring that internal components remain secure and operational even in dusty environments.

Additionally, the IP54 rating signifies resistance to water splashes from any direction.

I didn’t get the chance to test this scooter during wet weather.

Take a look into the local laws and always wear a good helmet (or a sturdy bike helmet if you’re not going too fast). Check out my guide on the best electric scooter helmets for more info.

For extra safety, think about getting some motorcycle armor or at least knee and elbow pads. See my guide on the best electric scooter accessories for some good options to stay safe and enjoy your rides.

As this is not a super-expensive scooter, you will want to get a medium-strong scooter lock.

Tradeoffs and issues

The Apollo Air electric scooter offers a balanced set of features, but trade-offs and potential issues exist.

The Apollo Air is a compact and lightweight electric scooter that packs a punch in terms of portability and agility. Its 10-inch tubeless pneumatic tires offer a smooth ride over various terrains, while the hybrid braking system ensures confident stops. The adjustable speed caters to both cautious newcomers and seasoned commuters, making it versatile for urban mobility.

But, there are a few things that we should mention like having limited range and having relatively low pick power that can make it a little bit difficult climbing on steeper hills.

Still, the Apollo Air is an excellent choice for city commuters seeking a portable and handy electric scooter. Its lightweight design, adjustable speed, and water resistance make it ideal for short trips and errands. Most importantly, the quality levels that the Apollo brand practically assures will guarantee that this scooter is ideal as your first choice, but it may easily end up being the last scooter you ever buy for commuting.
