When to buy
Tall riders, heavy riders, value shoppers, people riding in wet weather, commuters, range nerds, will all love the EMove Cruiser V2. Like its predecessor, the EMove Cruiser is a stellar all-round scooter, suitable for beginners, hobby riders, enthusiasts, expert scooterists, and everyone in between.
When not to buy
With the loss of portability compared to the original version, the EMove Cruiser loses some of its versatility, and it’s not more geared towards riders who prefer quality over carryability. So, if you’re looking for a super-portable scooter, the original version is a better choice.
It’s been a long time coming, one of the most awaited upgrades in the electric scooter world, and now it’s finally here.
The EMove Cruiser V2, the next version of, in my opinion, the best general-purpose scooter ever, is finally available.
In this complete review, we will cover every aspect of this new and improved version.
Basics
As expected, the EMove Cruiser V2 is, overall, an excellent scooter.
You will get tons of range, superb quality and improved ride experience, super-easy maintenance, amazing features, with nothing lacking.
Keeping in line with its predecessor, the V2 is still a great-value, versatile, reliable scooter.
EMove Cruiser vs EMove Cruiser V2
Ok, let’s address the elephant in the room – is the V2 better than the first EMove Cruiser version?
I would say, not necessarily, at least in my opinion.
It’s much better in several key aspects, that’s for sure, things like:
- the quality level is a bit better (although the original was also excellent in this regard)
- the stem is sturdier and has less wobble, which was known to be a problem in the original
- the folding mechanism is better, including three parts: a button, a folding latch, and a lock (although you’ll probably want an additional, stronger lock)
- better suspension
- a bit better brakes
- tougher and better tires, that can also handle off-road and are easier to swap
- much better and brighter LCD
- adjustable handlebar height, which makes the V2 one of the best scooters for tall adults
- better hill climbing angle
All of those are important quality and user experience upgrades that will make sense for a lot of users.
However, there have been a few tradeoffs, which somewhat muddy the waters and don’t make the choice simple.
Most notably, the increased weight of the V2 has changed the primary use cases of the scooter in a meaningful way. With the weight increasing from 52 to 74 lbs, the scooter can no longer be considered a lightweight and super-portable commuting companion, something that was a key advantage of the original version.
The dimensions are also slightly bigger, although not in a noticeable way. The handlebars are no longer foldable, which further decreases the portability of the scooter (although, granted, it increases the stability quite a lot, so this may be a worthy tradeoff).
The V2 will also be about $300 more expensive.
And the most intriguing part – the increases in both price and weight don’t come with any noticeable performance improvements.
I must say I was a bit surprised by this. It’s typical for scooters to release newer, heavier, pricier models, but they’re almost always more powerful. The range of the EMove Cruiser is pretty much maxed out anyway, but the top speed was always one of the potential weak points of the scooter, at least in my opinion, and I must say that to not see it increased was a bit disappointing to me.
So, the change can be summarized like this: the V2 comes with improved quality and better features, at the cost of being heavier.
Performance
Some performance aspects of the EMove Cruiser V2 are good, and some of them are… great!
Speed and speed tests
The speed of the EMove Cruiser V2 is, in my opinion, the only thing that separates it from being the perfect scooter that anyone could ever want.
The official top speed is 33 mph / 53.1 kmh. Both my own and third-party speed tests from other owners confirm this top speed, and there’s even one case where the rider reported reaching 38 mph / 61 kmh! Still, that’s probably some sort of an anomaly, and the actual top speedis the official one.
Now, this is just my personal opinion, but my own sweet spot for the top speed is around 40 mph / 65 kmh. I must admit, I was secretly hoping that the V2 will come with this speed improvement, but the speed stays the same as in the first version.
Motor
The motor is better in the sense that it’s a true-split rim motor. This means that maintenance and switching tires will be much, much easier.
The real power is 1000 W, and the peak power is 1100 W. Compared to the OG version, the real power is much better, but the peak is much smaller (the original had 600 W real and 1600 W peak).
Voromotors have announced that a dual-motor version of the scooter may be coming soon, and that may be an entirely different story.
Range and range tests
Range is one of the strongest weapons of the EMove Cruiser line, and my personal favorite thing about these models.
The EMove Cruiser V2 has an official range of 62 mi / 100 km. Range tests have only been conducted at higher speeds, resulting in distances from 38 mi / 61 km to 56 mi / 91 km (I got 55 mi / 89 km riding quite fast). It’s almost certain that the scooter will not have any problems reaching the official range if riding at 15 mph / 25 kmh, but that range test hasn’t been performed yet.
With that type of range, the V2 easily earns its spot on the list of the best long-range electric scooters.
Battery
The battery of the the EMove Cruiser V2 comes from LG, with M50 LT 21700 cells.
One of the coolest things about it is that it’s easily accessible in the deck and there are much fewer wires, thus much fewer things to go wrong.
The scooter took around 11 hours to charge fully, with the official charge time being between 9 to 12 hours.
Hill climbing and climb tests
The official climb angle of the EMove Cruiser is 20 degrees, and I was able to confirm this in my climb test (tried on a hill of 22 degrees, no issues at all).
On paper, this is supposed to be a big improvement over the climb angle of the old version, which was just 9 degrees. However, I also climbed 20 degree hills with that model as well, so maybe there’s not a ton of real improvement here.
Ride experience and build quality
The build quality and ride experience of the EMove Cruiser V2 are some of its strongest sides, and the best improvements compared to the older version.
The frame of the scooter is made of forged aluminum, and it feels more robust and stronger. There is much less wobble in the stem, which was one of my favorite improvements. The neck of the scooter (the part of the frame between the stem and the deck) is also very sturdy and contributes a lot to ride stability.
The team over at Voromotors is possibly the best in the world when it comes to testing their units, and the rigorously test and make sure that every little part, nut, bolt, and cranny in the scooter is secure and operating properly. On this model, they’ve also performed a ton of crash tests, so you can expect greater safety.
Features
The EMove Cruiser V2 is feature-complete – it simply has it all.
Brakes
The XTech semi-hydraulic brakes come with 140 mm brake rotors that offer better heat dissipation and result in a very short brake distance (8 meters when braking from full speed). The braking felt smooth and safe.
The brakes are fully customizable, but they can also be replaced and upgraded with MT5e, Zoom, or Nutt hydraulic brakes.
Tires and wheels
The tire dimensions are 10×2.75 inches, and with that tire size, the rides are very comfortable. The rims might be able to support even 11 inch tires.
Since the tires are semi-pneumatic, or, rather, hybrid self-healing tubeless, they will be very resistant to flats, while not compromising ride quality.
While flats will be very rare, fixing a flat and replacing the tire will be very easy thanks to the new split rim motor.
Shock absorption
The V2 has 150 mm air shock absorbers.
The forged rear arm in the rear provides additional suspension.
The suspension will typically not bottom out even when jumping from curbs, unless you’re on the heavier side.
Coupled with the big tires and reliable build, the EMove Cruiser V2 offers a very comfortable and smooth ride.
Water resistance
Same as with its predecessor, the EMove Cruiser V2 comes with an IPX6 water protection standard.
Currently, that’s one of the best in the game, making this one of the most waterproof electric scooters in existence.
The scooter handles wet weather with ease.
Lights
The light configuration of the EMove Cruiser V2 is pretty solid:
- big headlight
- brake lever sensors
- turn signals
The headlight is placed higher on the stem, which greatly improves visibility at night. As in most scooter, it’s not crazy strong, but it will get the job done for night rides.
Handlebars
The handlebars are quite wide and not foldable, which is in stark contrast to the more narrow and foldable handlebars of the old version.
This results in much better control and stability while riding, but the portability of the scooter is also reduced.
Screen
The screen of the V2 is, well, beautiful, if I may say so.
It’s super-bright, and easily visible and readable even on the sunniest days. Not a critical upgrade, but definitely better than the old screen.
It displays all the information you need: battery, speed, speed mode, etc.
Weight, dimensions, and portability
The EMove Cruiser V2 weighs 74 lbs / 33.5 kg.
In my opinion, this is the biggest tradeoff that the design team has made compared to the first version, and I’m not sure if it has been worth it.
At this weight, this is no longer a lightweight scooter, something which kind of could have been said about the first version. It’s still not a heavy scooter by any means, but it’s also not exactly a lightweight, and carrying it will be a bit harder.
Also, because of the wider, non-foldable handlebars, and the slightly increased dimensions (50 x 28 x 42 in / 127 x 70 x 106 cm), taking the scooter through all the usual places where commuters carry their scooters (subway doors, buses, hallways, elevators, small rooms) will be a bit harder.
One piece of good news is that the handlebar height is now adjustable, and the deck-to-handlebar height can go from 35 all the way up to 44 inches, making this one of the best scooters for tall adults on the market.
Weight limit
The EMove Cruiser can carry 352 lbs / 160 kg of weight on its deck without any problems, according to the official specs. That makes it one of the best electric scooters for heavy adults today.
Downsides and issues
A lot of things have been improved in the V2, but there are a few drawbacks as well, in my opinion.
As I mentioned before, I believe that the increased weight is probably the biggest one. With a notable weight increase, the EMove Cruiser V2 is pretty much in a different category of scooters now compared to the old version. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, it’s just that, well, honestly, I just really loved the first version, and I guess I wanted the V2 to be “more” of that.
The price increase is also one of the major downsides compared to the first version.
Verdict
When I first found out about the EMove Cruiser V2, I was ecstatic – I thought that my favorite scooter in the world just got better.
Well, it did. But not in all the ways.
If you’re after better quality, increased robustness and sturdiness, smoother ride quality, and improved features and attention to detail, definitely check out the EMove Cruiser V2 – it’s an excellent, versatile, great-value scooter.
It’s also one of the best options for riders looking for lots and lots and lots of range, great water resistance, amazing weight capacity, and tall riders.
I’d still say maybe consider the original EMove Cruiser if you want to get mostly the same things but for a bit smaller price and, a few sacrifices in quality, but better portability.
